He was arrested alongside some men while trying to renew their passports, and later, news emerged that they were involved in killings. I was in the dark the entire time,” she said. The woman described how she discovered bundles of Chadian currency in a sack given to her by her husband. Shortly after, she noticed unknown men visiting their home, having breakfast together before stepping outside to engage in secret conversations. “My husband returned later and collected the money he had left with me. That was when an Almajiri boy working in our house informed me that something strange was happening at Bushara’s residence. He said my husband’s associates were seen running away,” she narrated. Later that day, she saw her husband rush into their home to grab more cash and important documents. Locals have since begun returning to their homes, expressing their gratitude for the Army’s efforts to liberate the area. The troops also discovered and cleared a newly established terrorist camp near Mai Hills, where they found essential supplies and logistics left behind by the terrorists. The operation continued with a push towards Jaima village, a border community, where Nigerien troops were reported to be conducting patrols. Meanwhile, in Borno State, barely 24 hours after attacking Bazir village in Chibok Local Government Area, Boko Haram terrorists launched another assault on Shikarkir Ward of Chibok. The terrorists set fire to the Church of Brethren and several residential buildings. Earlier, Boko Haram terrorists attacked Bazir, killing two siblings, setting fire to the church, and destroying a residential building. The terrorists looted livestock and foodstuffs before fleeing. One of the victims’ family members, Mallam Daniel Shikarkir, confirmed that his elderly parents, aged 82 and 79, escaped the attack unharmed, but their home was completely destroyed. A battle damage assessment confirmed that 34 terrorists were killed, while 23 AK-47 rifles and over 200 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were seized from the attackers. The Defence Headquarters has confirmed the rise of a new terrorist group, known as ‘Lukarawas,’ which is worsening security challenges in northwestern Nigeria. This revelation was made by Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, during a press briefing on military activities held in Abuja on Thursday. Maj.-Gen. Buba stated that the group emerged from the Republic of Niger following a coup that disrupted military cooperation between Nigeria and Niger. He explained that the terrorists began to infiltrate northern Sokoto and Kebbi States from the Niger Republic and the Mali region, with their activities increasing after the coup in Niger. Before the coup, joint border operations with Nigerien security forces helped prevent terrorist activities. However, the lack of collaboration post-coup created opportunities for the terrorists to exploit challenging terrains and penetrate remote parts of the northwestern region, spreading their extremist agenda. Maj.-Gen. Buba noted that the group’s presence was initially accepted by local communities, who mistakenly believed the group had good intentions and did not report their movements to security agencies. He assured the public that military forces were maintaining Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations to weaken the terrorist group. He added that the group continues to use vast, under-governed areas as hideouts to avoid detection, harass residents, and evade troops.
