The Nigerian Armed Forces say coordinated security operations conducted across multiple regions of the country have led to the rescue of more than 40 kidnapped victims, the arrest of over 20 suspected terrorists and criminal collaborators, and the disruption of several criminal networks within a one-week period.
The latest military assessment, covering operations between July 10 and July 16, highlights continued pressure on insurgent groups, armed bandits, kidnappers, oil thieves and other violent criminal elements operating in different parts of Nigeria.
According to the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major-General Michael Onoja, the operations were carried out by troops deployed under various military task forces in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilante groups.
Nationwide Security Operations Yield Multiple Arrests and Rescues
Military authorities said troops operating under Operations Hadin Kai, Fansan Yamma, Savannah Shield, Enduring Peace, Whirl Stroke, Delta Safe, and UDO KA executed coordinated missions targeting criminal hideouts, logistics networks and kidnapping gangs across the country.
During the week-long operations, security forces:
- Rescued more than 40 kidnapped victims
- Arrested over 20 suspected terrorists, collaborators and other criminal suspects
- Neutralised several terrorists during armed encounters
- Recovered firearms, ammunition, vehicles and other operational equipment
- Destroyed illegal criminal infrastructure, including illicit oil refining sites
The Defence Headquarters described the operations as part of sustained military efforts aimed at weakening criminal organisations and improving public safety nationwide.
North-East Records Surrenders, Arrests and Rescue Missions
In the North-East, troops under Operation Hadin Kai recorded several breakthroughs against insurgent activities.
Military authorities said 10 family members of terrorists voluntarily surrendered, while six individuals suspected of supplying logistics and supporting terrorist groups were arrested.
Troops also rescued 13 kidnapped victims, foiled attempted attacks around Maiduguri and eliminated several terrorists during ambush operations.
Security personnel additionally arrested a suspected foreign intelligence operative in Mallam Fatori, Borno State, as investigations continue into the individual’s activities.
North-West Operations Target Bandit Networks
In Nigeria’s North-West, troops attached to Operation Fansan Yamma intensified operations across Zamfara and Kebbi states.
The military said three suspected terrorists were killed during separate engagements, while suspected collaborators were taken into custody.
Security forces also rescued 14 kidnapped victims and recovered vehicles and other items allegedly abandoned by fleeing criminal elements.
Rescue Operations Continue Along Major Highways
Troops operating under Operation Savannah Shield rescued four kidnapped victims during separate missions in Niger and Kwara states.
In another operation in Kwara, forest guards reportedly killed a suspected terrorist and recovered an AK-47 rifle, magazines and a locally made firearm.
Meanwhile, Operation Enduring Peace arrested suspected arms traffickers in Kaduna State, apprehended wanted criminal suspects in Plateau State, and rescued four kidnap victims after preventing attacks along major transportation routes.
Security Forces Recover Ammunition, Rescue Examination Officials in Kogi
In the North-Central region, Operation Whirl Stroke arrested a suspected ammunition courier in Nasarawa State who was allegedly transporting 60 rounds of ammunition.
Four suspected terrorist collaborators were also arrested in Kogi State.
Military authorities further confirmed the rescue of a school principal, a National Examinations Council (NECO) official and two students who had been abducted during an attack on an examination centre in Dekina Local Government Area.
According to the military, sustained security pressure forced the kidnappers to abandon the victims before fleeing.
Oil Theft Crackdown Continues in South-South
Operations targeting crude oil theft also continued in the Niger Delta.
Troops under Operation Delta Safe dismantled illegal refining sites in Rivers State as part of efforts to curb economic sabotage.
In Edo State, security personnel killed two suspected kidnappers, recovered three rifles with ammunition and rescued three abducted victims during separate security operations.
South-East Operations Lead to Arrests and Rescue
In the South-East, troops deployed under Operation UDO KA arrested suspected members of a banned separatist group.
The military said weapons and ammunition were recovered during the operations, while two kidnapped victims were rescued along the Aba–Port Harcourt Highway.
Defence Chief Commends Troops
Major-General Onoja said the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, praised troops for maintaining professionalism and operational discipline throughout the nationwide missions.
The Defence Chief also commended security agencies involved in the intelligence-driven operation that recently secured the unconditional release of 44 pupils and teachers abducted in Oyo State after spending 56 days in captivity.
He urged members of the public to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies, stressing that ongoing operations would continue until violent criminal groups are significantly degraded.

Nigeria continues to battle multiple security challenges, including terrorism in the North-East, armed banditry in the North-West, kidnapping-for-ransom across several regions, separatist-related violence in the South-East and crude oil theft in the Niger Delta.
The latest operational update suggests that security agencies are maintaining simultaneous military pressure across different theatres. However, security analysts note that long-term success will depend not only on military operations but also on intelligence gathering, community cooperation, prosecution of suspects and improved security coordination.
Authorities are expected to continue nationwide clearance operations while monitoring areas considered vulnerable to renewed attacks.
