In the aftermath of recent farmer killings, Nigerian Army troops, operating under the umbrella of Operation Fansan Yanma, have successfully dealt a significant blow to terrorist groups in Sokoto and Kebbi states. According to a security source, Zagazola Makama, a series of well-coordinated operations were carried out targeting local government councils, including Illela, Tangaza, Gudu, Binji, and Silami in Sokoto State, and Augie, Arewa, Argungu, and Dandi councils in Kebbi State. These efforts led to the neutralization of over 20 terrorists, dismantling their camps, and forcing them to flee their hideouts. The operations, which aimed to restore peace and security, saw troops sweeping through terrorist strongholds in the Tsauna, Bauni, and Sarma forests. The Army pushed deep into these critical areas, flushing out terrorists, destroying their camps, and recovering valuable equipment. In Sarma Ruga, 20 terrorists were killed during intense combat. Fleeing terrorists abandoned their weapons, hideouts, and supplies, many of which were destroyed by the troops. A significant breakthrough came with the clearance of Manja village, which had been abandoned for four years due to banditry and terrorist activities. Locals have since begun returning to their homes, expressing their gratitude for the Army’s efforts to liberate the area. The troops also discovered and cleared a newly established terrorist camp near Mai Hills, where they found essential supplies and logistics left behind by the terrorists. The operation continued with a push towards Jaima village, a border community, where Nigerien troops were reported to be conducting patrols. Meanwhile, in Borno State, barely 24 hours after attacking Bazir village in Chibok Local Government Area, Boko Haram terrorists launched another assault on Shikarkir Ward of Chibok. The terrorists set fire to the Church of Brethren and several residential buildings. Earlier, Boko Haram terrorists attacked Bazir, killing two siblings, setting fire to the church, and destroying a residential building. The terrorists looted livestock and foodstuffs before fleeing. One of the victims’ family members, Mallam Daniel Shikarkir, confirmed that his elderly parents, aged 82 and 79, escaped the attack unharmed, but their home was completely destroyed. On Saturday, December 7, 2024, the Katsina State Police Command successfully prevented two kidnapping attempts, rescuing a total of 20 victims across two incidents. First Kidnapping Attempt Thwarted in Jibia At approximately 7:00 p.m., police officers responded swiftly to a distress call from the Katsina–Magamar Jibia road in Jibia Local Government Area. A group of armed bandits, equipped with AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons, attempted to kidnap the occupants of a moving vehicle by opening fire. However, officers from the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters, acting on intelligence, arrived at the scene and engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle. The bandits, who sustained injuries, abandoned their plan and fled the area, leaving all 10 victims unharmed. Second Kidnapping Attempt Foiled in Faskari The second incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on the Funtua–Gusau road in Faskari Local Government Area. Armed bandits ambushed a passenger vehicle at Marabar Bangori. Upon receiving the alarm, the police mobilized and engaged the criminals in another gunfight. Overpowered by the police’s superior firepower, the bandits abandoned their mission, leaving all passengers safe. Unfortunately, one victim suffered severe injuries from an assault by the bandits and was promptly taken to a nearby hospital. The victim is currently recovering and responding well to medical treatment. Police Commended for Professionalism Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, commended the officers for their courage and professionalism during the operations. He encouraged them to continue their efforts in fighting crime and ensuring the safety and security of Katsina’s residents. The Joint Security Task Force (JTF) in Nigeria’s southeast region has announced the arrest of two suspected members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and the seizure of various weapons during a series of coordinated raids across the region. Key Raids and Operations Imo State – Uhuala-Aku, Okigwe LGAOn December 5, JTF operatives, acting on credible intelligence, raided a camp in Uhuala-Aku, Okigwe LGA, Imo State. Jonah Unuakhalu, the JTF spokesperson, stated that the task force destroyed 26 makeshift accommodations at the site. Upon arrival, the JTF engaged with ESN members, who fled into nearby forests due to the troops’ superior firepower. Recovered items included: Arrests in Ebonyi State – Okposi CommunityThe JTF apprehended two suspects in the Okposi community of Ebonyi State. Seized items included: Enugu State – Agu Orba Ekwegbe, Nsukka LGA In another operation, troops from Sector 1, in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), raided an alleged ESN camp in Agu Orba Ekwegbe, Nsukka LGA, Enugu State.Recovered items included: The camp was subsequently destroyed to prevent its reuse. The Nigerian Army has reported the capture of a notorious terrorist leader, Abubakar Ibrahim, also known as Habu Dogo, in the North West. This success, achieved as part of ongoing counter-terrorism operations, marks a significant step in weakening the operational capacity of terrorist groups across the country, as noted in a statement from Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations. Habu Dogo, who is on the watch list of security agencies in both Nigeria and Niger for his cross-border activities, was arrested in Rumji Village, located in Illela Local Government Area, Sokoto State. Additionally, in the South East, security forces apprehended seven commanders and members of the IPOB/ESN, including individuals such as Dr. Nnamdi Chukwudoze and Chigozie Ezetoha, known as Chapet, in Anambra State. Others detained include Ngozi Chukwuka and Oyekachi Ohia in Abia, as well as Ifeanyi Eze, Augustine Udemba, and Onyedikachi Udemba in Umunneochi, Abia. Another individual, Elijah Mmaduipeya Obumneke, was captured in Orsu, Imo State. Throughout this period, 187 insurgents were neutralized, and 262 individuals were detained. Additionally, 39 oil thieves were apprehended, and 147 kidnapped individuals were rescued. In the South-South region, troops prevented oil theft valued at approximately N1.2 billion and recovered a variety of weapons and ammunition, including 205 firearms and over 5,000 rounds of ammunition. Troops also seized communication equipment, vehicles, motorcycles, and mobile phones. Operations in the Niger Delta region led to the destruction of 49 illegal oil cooking ovens, numerous storage facilities, and 98 unauthorized refining sites. The recovered items in this region include boats, vehicles, and significant quantities of stolen crude oil and illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), totaling over a million liters.
