Nigerian Troops Repel Coordinated ISWAP Assaults on Maiduguri and Buratai Axis, Security Operations Intensify in Borno

Security forces under the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have successfully thwarted multiple coordinated infiltration attempts by suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State, preventing what appeared to be a planned overnight assault on strategic locations around Maiduguri and the Buratai axis.

The military said the coordinated attacks occurred during the early hours of Friday, with insurgents attempting to breach several communities leading into the Borno State capital. However, troops detected the movement before the attackers could reach their intended targets, resulting in a series of armed confrontations that forced the terrorists to retreat.

Multiple Locations Targeted in Overnight Operation

According to information released by the Nigerian Army, the attempted infiltration took place between approximately 12:20 a.m. and 2:30 a.m.

The suspected ISWAP fighters reportedly advanced simultaneously toward Muna Garage, Shuwari Village, and the Ajilari Cross area—locations considered important access points into Maiduguri. Security officials believe the coordinated nature of the movement suggests the insurgents intended to launch a wider operation within or around the city.

Military personnel, operating with the support of an established early warning surveillance system, detected the advancing fighters before they reached populated areas. Troops then launched coordinated defensive operations from multiple positions, using sustained firepower that disrupted the insurgents’ advance and forced them to withdraw.

Additional Attacks Repelled Around Buratai

The military also confirmed that separate infiltration attempts were recorded around Miringa and Dutsen Kura in the Buratai area of Borno State.

During follow-up operations aimed at pursuing the retreating insurgents near Miringa, one Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle activated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

Despite the explosion, military authorities reported that no soldiers were injured or killed, adding that operational activities continued without disruption.
