A large number of members of the Ogun State House of Assembly have openly declared their support for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District, ahead of the 2027 governorship election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Odimba, revealed that detailed operational directives have already been circulated to Area Commanders and Divisional Officers in all Local Government Areas to ensure that security coverage remains effective in every community. According to him, the command has taken proactive measures to guarantee a calm and orderly atmosphere for residents and visitors during the celebration. He explained that the operation will focus heavily on safeguarding critical national assets and essential infrastructure, which remain key priorities for the corps. Security personnel have been instructed to intensify surveillance around public facilities, government installations, transportation hubs, and other sensitive locations considered important to public safety. To further strengthen the exercise, the command has mobilized several specialized formations, including the Rapid Response Squad, Tactical Team, and the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU). These units will carry out continuous patrols in recreational centres, crowded environments, vulnerable communities, and identified flashpoints, with the objective of preventing any unlawful activity before it escalates. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has provided clarification regarding the detention of former Kaduna State governor Nasir Ahmad El‑Rufai, stating that the commission did not request a new court order to extend his detention, contrary to reports circulating in the media. In an official statement issued on Tuesday by John Okor Odey, who serves as Head of Media and Public Communication, the commission explained that its appearance in court on March 17, 2026, was strictly for the hearing of an application submitted by El-Rufai. The application challenged the court order that renewed his remand in custody. According to the commission, the motion filed by El-Rufai’s legal team was dated March 6, 2026, and requested the court to overturn the remand order that had earlier been granted on March 5, 2026. During the court session, the ICPC informed the court that its response to the application had been served on El-Rufai’s counsel. After receiving the response, the defence lawyer requested additional time to review the document and prepare a reply. The commission stated that the request led the presiding Magistrate to adjourn the matter until March 31, 2026, in order to allow the defence team adequate time to study the commission’s response and properly address it during the next hearing. The ICPC also explained the sequence of events that resulted in the continued detention of the former governor. It noted that the initial remand order granted investigators a period of fourteen days to examine allegations involving money laundering and abuse of office. After the first remand period expired, the commission applied to the court for another fourteen-day extension to complete its investigation. The court approved the request on March 5, 2026. The agency further revealed that an earlier application filed by El-Rufai’s lawyers to cancel the remand order issued on February 19, 2026, was dismissed by the court on March 9, 2026. According to the statement, El-Rufai remains in custody based on the valid remand order granted on March 5, 2026, and the commission emphasized that the detention follows lawful procedures. The ICPC stressed that it is acting in full compliance with court instructions, including the obligation to submit progress reports on the investigation, while ensuring that due process is followed at every stage. The commission also reaffirmed that its operations are guided by professionalism and strict adherence to the rule of law, noting that the detention order was granted by a competent court in line with the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act. In addition, the agency warned against the spread of false or unverified information across traditional and social media platforms, urging members of the public to rely only on official statements released by the commission. The Ondo State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Victor Olabimtan, has revealed that Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed the organisation to enlist 25 individuals from each of the 3,933 polling units in the state as part of preparations for the 2027 presidential election. According to him, the planned recruitment will produce a total of 98,325 grassroots campaigners who will operate directly within polling units across Ondo State. Each of the recruited members will be tasked with persuading a minimum of five voters to support the President during the forthcoming election, strengthening mobilisation at the community level. Olabimtan made this disclosure during the official inauguration of the Ondo State chapter of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, which took place in Akure, the state capital, on Tuesday. He explained that the initiative has been established in all 36 states of the federation to improve communication between the Federal Government and citizens, especially regarding the policies, programmes, and projects introduced under the Renewed Hope Agenda. Speaking at the event, he stated that the directive from the President emphasises the importance of political engagement at the polling unit level rather than relying solely on ward, local government, or state structures. He noted that each polling unit is expected to produce 25 canvassers, and these individuals will receive financial support beginning three months before the election and continuing until two months after the exercise. Payments, he added, will be made directly to the participants. Olabimtan further explained that the strategy is designed to ensure effective voter mobilisation. With every canvasser expected to influence at least five voters, the cumulative effect across the state and the country is projected to significantly improve electoral outcomes for the ruling party. He added that both the President and the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, will be responsible for funding the remuneration for the campaigners. The coordinator, who also serves as Chairman of the Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board, said the Renewed Hope Ambassadors programme was created to provide accurate information to citizens about Federal Government policies while also gathering feedback from grassroots communities. According to him, the nationwide initiative aims to educate Nigerians about reforms and opportunities introduced by the current administration. The programme is also intended to ensure that members of the public understand the benefits of government interventions and how to access available opportunities. He urged members of the group to remain active in mobilisation efforts and party outreach activities throughout the state. Olabimtan said those selected were chosen based on their experience, credibility, and past contributions, adding that they are expected to strengthen collaboration with structures of the All Progressives Congress at the state, local government, ward, and polling unit levels. He explained that the network would help maintain consistent communication, promote unity within the party, and support elected officials in delivering accurate information about government programmes to their communities. The former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly also clarified that the establishment of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors will not interfere with the activities of other support groups working for President Tinubu in the state. He commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for his contribution to the selection of members and expressed confidence that the organisation would carry out its responsibilities effectively in order to achieve its objectives ahead of the 2027 general election.

Tension surrounding Iran’s control of the Strait of Hormuz is creating global concern over fuel shortages, but in India the impact is reaching far beyond petrol stations. Restaurants, tea stalls, and street food vendors are struggling to keep popular snacks like samosas and traditional chai available, as cooking gas supplies become limited in several regions of the country. India, currently the fastest-growing major economy, depends heavily on imported liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Nearly 85% of the country’s LPG supply comes from the Middle East, and a large portion of this fuel is used daily for cooking meals for more than 1.4 billion citizens. Due to supply disruptions linked to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, authorities have started redirecting available LPG away from commercial use. Hotels, restaurants, canteens, and food vendors are now receiving less fuel so that households can continue cooking without interruption. Because of this restriction, many kitchen operators are searching for alternatives or reducing the number of meals they prepare. Some businesses have started using induction cookers, but this change has created new problems. Traditional Indian recipes often require intense open flames, heavy pans, and steady high heat, which electric cooking devices cannot always provide. Indian cuisine relies strongly on flame-based cooking techniques. Without gas stoves, curries lose their richness, tandoori dishes fail to char properly, and samosas — which need consistent high-temperature oil — do not cook correctly and lose their expected texture. Chetan Singh, owner of Gulabji Chai in Jaipur, explained that LPG shortages forced them to remove some of their most popular items from the menu, including bun butter and samosas, which customers usually come specifically to buy. He also noted that their well-known chai no longer tastes the same when prepared on an induction cooker. According to him, boiling tea on electric heat changes the flavor, and the overall cooking experience is different compared to using a gas flame. As a result, the restaurant has reduced its menu, but the taste of several items has been affected. To reduce the shortage, the Indian government announced that domestic LPG production from refineries has increased by around 38 percent. Officials also said enforcement teams are working to prevent hoarding and illegal sales of gas cylinders, with thousands already seized during inspections across the country. Despite these efforts, the situation continues to disturb the fast-moving street food industry and quick-service restaurants, where gas supply is essential for daily operations. Akhil Iyer, founder of Benne Dosa, which operates in Delhi and Mumbai, said his kitchens have been forced to adjust their cooking methods. Some foods, such as idlis and fried items, are now prepared using induction cookers to reduce gas consumption. However, not every dish can be adapted. He explained that dosa requires direct flame and high heat on a cast-iron surface to achieve the correct crisp texture. Tests using induction cooking did not produce acceptable results, so some branches have temporarily stopped selling dosa to conserve their remaining gas supply. At one Mumbai location, sales of dosa were paused because the kitchen had only one cylinder left. In Delhi, the restaurant continues to operate with gas, but at reduced capacity. Reports also showed that in several cities, residents waited for hours outside gas distribution centers, with some arriving before dawn in order to secure cylinders for home use. Recently, two Indian-flagged ships carrying more than 92,000 metric tons of LPG passed through the Strait of Hormuz, which has faced serious disruption since military operations involving the United States, Israel, and Iran intensified. As uncertainty grows, panic buying has begun to appear. Sales of induction stoves on Amazon India reportedly increased more than thirty times within a short period, showing how quickly consumers are looking for alternatives. Iyer said that if the shortage continues, his team may have to consider older cooking methods, including using firewood to heat cast-iron pans. However, he expressed concern about the environmental impact of returning to such fuel sources. Even with the difficulties, he insisted that his restaurant will not permanently remove its signature dish. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has revealed that more than 200 Ukrainian military specialists have been deployed to the Gulf region and parts of the Middle East to help allied nations defend against drone attacks linked to Iran. According to the Ukrainian leader, the move is part of a broader international security cooperation aimed at countering the growing use of Iranian-designed unmanned aerial vehicles in regional conflicts. Speaking during an address to members of the United Kingdom Parliament in London on Tuesday, Zelenskyy stated that 201 Ukrainian anti-drone experts are already stationed in the region, while an additional 34 specialists are on standby and ready for deployment if required. He explained that these personnel are trained professionals with battlefield experience in counter-drone warfare, particularly against the Shahed-type drones that have been widely used in the war between Russia and Ukraine. “These are military experts who know exactly how to defend against Shahed drones and similar aerial threats,” Zelenskyy said during his speech. Ukrainian Teams Operating Across Gulf Countries Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukrainian defence teams are currently working with several Middle Eastern partners. He mentioned that Ukrainian specialists are already present in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and are also heading toward Kuwait as part of ongoing defence cooperation agreements. According to the Ukrainian president, discussions with other countries are also underway, and several security arrangements have already been finalized. He stressed that Ukraine does not want the spread of drone attacks linked to Iran to destabilize neighbouring countries in the region. “We are working with several partners, and agreements are already in place. We do not want the terror carried out by the Iranian regime against its neighbours to succeed,” Zelenskyy said. The Ukrainian leader had previously announced that military support teams had also been sent to Jordan and other Gulf states to assist in strengthening air-defence systems against drone threats. Claims of Russia–Iran Military Cooperation During his speech, Zelenskyy repeated earlier claims that Russia received Shahed-136 drones from Iran, which were later modified and upgraded for use in the war against Ukraine that began in 2022. He alleged that Iran not only supplied the drones but also provided technical knowledge that allowed Russia to produce similar weapons domestically. “Russia learned how to launch these drones from Iran and received the technology to manufacture them. Later, the drones were upgraded, and now we have evidence that the ones used in the Middle East contain Russian components,” he said. Zelenskyy described the drones as weapons designed to cause low-cost destruction of expensive infrastructure, making them highly effective in modern warfare. Because of the cooperation between Moscow and Tehran, he said the situation in the Middle East cannot be seen as distant from the conflict in Ukraine. “The regimes in Russia and Iran are brothers in hatred, and that is why they are brothers in weapons,” he said, adding that such alliances should not be allowed to succeed.
