Former Anambra State governor and 2027 presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, has issued a strong challenge to anyone alleging financial misconduct against him, insisting that he will withdraw from political campaigning if evidence emerges that he benefited from any donation made to the Labour Party.
Obi made the statement during an interview on Nevon Media, hosted by Rufai Oseni, while responding to claims that he and activist Aisha Yesufu were involved in alleged misuse of campaign funds during the 2023 presidential election.
The controversy centres on accusations that large sums of money donated to the Labour Party ahead of the 2023 general election were improperly handled. Obi rejected the claims, demanding that those making the allegations provide verifiable evidence.
According to him, accusations without proof should not be treated as facts, adding that he was prepared to face anyone who could substantiate claims of financial wrongdoing.
“I don’t go by people talking nonsensical and listen to them,” Obi said during the interview, questioning where the alleged financial records were.
He challenged his accusers to present documents showing that he personally took funds belonging to the party or was involved in any financial mismanagement.
Obi further stated that he would include all individuals making such allegations among those he expects to provide evidence, stressing that transparency remains important in public leadership.
“If anyone can prove that I took 1% of Labour Party’s donations, I will stop campaigning,” he declared.
