Yobe Police Recover Stolen Goat, Building Materials as Theft Investigations Continue

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested four suspects in separate criminal investigations involving the alleged theft of a goat, assault, criminal conspiracy, and the recovery of stolen building materials worth millions of naira.

The latest operations, carried out in Damaturu, highlight ongoing efforts by security agencies in Yobe State to respond quickly to reported property crimes while pursuing those suspected of participating in theft-related offences.

Goat Recovered After Market Theft Incident

According to the Yobe State Police Command, one of the incidents occurred on Saturday, August 2, 2026, after a report was lodged at the ‘A’ Division Police Station in Damaturu.

Police said preliminary investigations indicate that a 35-year-old suspect allegedly stole a goat from the Sunday Market in Damaturu. During an attempt to flee the scene, an 80-year-old alleged accomplice reportedly attacked the complainant with a stick, causing injuries to the back of the victim’s head.

Responding officers quickly intervened, arrested both suspects, and recovered the stolen goat alongside the stick allegedly used during the assault. Authorities confirmed that investigations into the case remain ongoing.

Three Arrested Over Alleged Stolen Building Materials

In a separate operation, the command said it received a complaint on August 1, 2026, concerning the alleged theft of building materials estimated to be worth about ₦2.5 million.

The case was assigned to the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), whose investigation reportedly led officers to recover building materials valued at approximately ₦1.5 million.

Police also arrested three suspects allegedly found in possession of the recovered items. Investigators believe the suspects received and dealt in the stolen materials, while efforts continue to locate and recover the remaining property.

The recovered materials have been secured as exhibits pending the conclusion of the investigation.

Police Commissioner Orders Thorough Investigation

The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has directed investigators to conclude both cases professionally and ensure that anyone found responsible faces prosecution in accordance with Nigerian law.

The police said investigations into both incidents are still in progress, and additional recoveries or arrests may follow if new evidence emerges.
