The Lagos State Government has declared a short-term traffic redirection around major flyovers within the city to enable the installation of truck barriers.
As disclosed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the diversion will impact vehicles moving both inward and outward at the Stadium Flyover Bridge and the Ojuelegba Flyover Bridge, particularly near the Fire Station axis.
The planned traffic changes will occur during overnight hours, specifically from 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. between Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29, 2026. The same schedule will be repeated from Saturday, April 4 to Sunday, April 5, 2026.
In an official statement issued on Friday, Osiyemi urged drivers to strictly comply with the approved alternative routes throughout the exercise.
He further clarified that motorists travelling from Eko Bridge, Costain, and Iponri heading toward Ojuelegba and Alhaji Masha Road will be rerouted through the service lane at Alaka. This path passes the National Stadium gate and connects commuters to the Barracks area or continues onward to Alhaji Masha Road.
In the same vein, drivers approaching from Eko Bridge through Costain, as well as those coming from Apapa Road via Iponri, are advised to take a diversion through Iponri Estate Road. This alternative route links to Bode Thomas by way of Adeniran Ogunsanya and the Shitta Roundabout, allowing access to their intended destinations.
The commissioner appealed to the public for patience and cooperation, emphasizing that the overnight timing was carefully selected to reduce disruptions while ensuring the safe and effective installation of the truck barriers. This initiative forms part of the state’s broader strategy to improve traffic management and road safety.
