Ganduje Questions Opposition’s Northern Strength Ahead of 2027 Presidential Race

As political conversations around Nigeria’s 2027 general election continue to gather momentum, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has argued that the opposition still faces a major challenge in securing widespread support across Northern Nigeria.

Speaking during a public event in Kano over the weekend, Ganduje maintained that the North remains the most influential voting bloc in Nigeria’s presidential elections and suggested that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu currently holds a stronger political advantage in the region than his likely challengers.

Ganduje Says Northern Political Structure Will Decide 2027

According to Ganduje, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi have yet to establish the extensive grassroots political machinery required to compete effectively against President Tinubu in Northern Nigeria.

He said that while discussions about opposition alliances and coalition-building have continued, neither opposition figure has developed the broad regional network necessary to secure enough votes from the North during the next presidential election.
