The Yobe State Police Command says it has strengthened its fight against crime over the past year, securing 152 convictions and arresting 448 suspects in connection with a wide range of criminal offences across the state.
The figures, released during a press briefing in Damaturu by the Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, provide an overview of the command’s law enforcement activities, including criminal investigations, prosecutions and targeted operations against drug trafficking networks.
According to the police, a total of 407 criminal cases were handled during the review period, reflecting continued efforts to tackle violent crimes, drug-related offences and other security challenges in Yobe.
Breakdown of Criminal Cases
The command disclosed that the 407 recorded cases included:
- 31 murder cases
- 35 rape cases
- 8 kidnapping cases
- 11 armed robbery cases
- 322 other criminal offences
Police authorities said 448 suspects were arrested during investigations into these offences.
Of those cases processed through the justice system:
- 152 suspects were convicted
- 127 cases are currently before competent courts
- 69 investigations remain pending
- 17 case files are awaiting legal advice
- 42 cases ended in acquittal
The statistics illustrate the different stages of criminal prosecution, from investigation to trial and final judgment.
Drug Warehouse Discovered in Potiskum
Among the major operations highlighted by the Commissioner was the discovery of a suspected drug warehouse in Potiskum Local Government Area.
Police operatives arrested a suspected drug trafficking kingpin during the operation and recovered:
- Eight cartons containing assorted illicit drugs
- One and a half Ghana-Must-Go bags filled with Tramadol and Exzol tablets
- ₦835,500 believed to be proceeds from illegal drug sales
The Commissioner said officers encountered violent resistance from suspected members of the criminal network during the operation. While one suspect was arrested, investigations are continuing to track down other members of the syndicate who escaped.
Coordinated Raids Target Drug Hotspots
The command also intensified operations against illicit drug activities in Jakusko Local Government Area through coordinated raids on identified criminal hideouts and drug joints.
The exercise resulted in the arrest of 14 suspected drug dealers and users.
Recovered exhibits included more than 300 sachets and packages of suspected illicit substances, including Tramadol, Indian hemp, Vega tablets and other prohibited drugs.
Police believe such operations are important in disrupting criminal networks that often exploit illegal drug markets to finance other forms of crime.

Commissioner Usman Kanfani Jibrin said the command will continue to prioritise intelligence gathering, proactive policing strategies and stronger community engagement to improve public safety across Yobe State.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property while strengthening collaboration with residents in efforts to prevent crime before it occurs.
