Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has received another major endorsement, with former Sierra Leone international Michael Lahoud placing the Nigerian among the leading strikers in European football.
Osimhen’s reputation as one of the continent’s most dangerous forwards has received fresh recognition after former Sierra Leone international Michael Lahoud backed him among the elite strikers currently operating in Europe.
Speaking on the CBS Sports Golazo Network while assessing Galatasaray’s prospects in the UEFA Champions League, Lahoud highlighted Osimhen’s goalscoring ability and suggested that the Turkish champions possess enough attacking quality to challenge strongly in Europe.
Lahoud specifically pointed to Osimhen alongside established stars such as Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappé, while also identifying Galatasaray’s attacking options as a major reason for his optimism.
Lahoud backs Galatasaray for a top-eight finish
According to Lahoud, Galatasaray have the firepower required to finish inside the top eight during the Champions League league phase.
His argument is built around the presence of Osimhen and the additional attacking threat provided by Rafael Leão.
Lahoud said Galatasaray could have one of Europe’s strongest striking options and described Leão as a potential “X factor” for the Turkish side.
He also predicted that Galatasaray would finish among the top eight teams in the Champions League league phase.
That prediction represents a significant vote of confidence, considering the quality of clubs competing in Europe’s premier club competition.
Osimhen’s European record strengthens the argument
While Lahoud’s assessment remains subjective, Osimhen’s Champions League numbers provide a strong statistical basis for his reputation.
UEFA records show that Osimhen had scored 16 Champions League goals for Nigerian players, making him Nigeria’s all-time leading scorer in the competition as of UEFA’s June 2026 update. He had also reached 26 goals in UEFA men’s club competitions.
His importance to Galatasaray was particularly evident during their 2025/26 Champions League campaign.
The Nigerian striker scored a decisive extra-time goal against Juventus in Turin as Galatasaray secured a 7-5 aggregate victory in the knockout phase play-offs.

The bigger picture for Galatasaray
Galatasaray’s ambitions are increasingly being measured against their ability to compete beyond Türkiye.
The club has a strong domestic record under manager Okan Buruk and has continued to build a squad capable of challenging in European competition. UEFA notes that Galatasaray entered the 2026/27 Champions League league phase after winning the Turkish title, with Osimhen identified as the team’s key player.
That makes the attacking partnership and supporting cast around Osimhen particularly important.
If Galatasaray can consistently supply their forwards with quality chances while maintaining defensive stability, their prospects of making another deep European run could improve considerably.

Lahoud’s prediction will ultimately be judged by Galatasaray’s performances on the pitch.
A top-eight finish in the Champions League league phase would be a demanding target because it requires sustained results against elite opposition. But Galatasaray’s previous European campaign showed that they are capable of upsetting established clubs.
