Arsenal: Osimhen Talks Remain Unclear as Galatasaray Hold Firm; Manchester United Suffer Gavi Setback

The summer transfer window is entering a decisive stage, but the future of Victor Osimhen remains one of the major unresolved stories involving a Nigerian player. Despite renewed reports linking the Galatasaray striker with Arsenal, there is currently no clear indication that the two clubs are engaged in active negotiations specifically over the Nigerian forward.

The latest reports add another layer of uncertainty to a transfer saga that has generated several competing claims in recent weeks. At the same time, Manchester United have reportedly suffered disappointment in their pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Gavi, who is said to prefer remaining at the Catalan club.

Arsenal’s Osimhen interest faces uncertainty

Osimhen has repeatedly emerged as a potential target for Arsenal as the Premier League champions consider their attacking options.

The Nigerian striker has also been linked with other major English clubs, including Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. However, reports surrounding Arsenal and Galatasaray have not been consistent.

Recent reporting from The Athletic indicates that Arsenal and Galatasaray are not currently in active negotiations over Osimhen. That is significant because several earlier reports had suggested that discussions between the clubs could potentially involve players moving in either direction.

There have also been reports that Galatasaray have received approaches for Osimhen but remain reluctant to part with their star forward. Other recent reports have claimed that Arsenal explored possible arrangements involving players such as Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri, although the precise status of those discussions remains unclear.

That conflicting information means supporters should be cautious about treating every reported proposal as evidence that a transfer is close.

Why Galatasaray are reluctant to sell Osimhen

Galatasaray’s position is understandable given Osimhen’s importance to the Turkish champions.

The 27-year-old Nigeria international joined the Istanbul club after his turbulent spell at Napoli and quickly became a central figure in Galatasaray’s attack. His goals, physical presence and experience at the highest level have made him one of the most valuable forwards available on the European transfer market.

L’Équipe recently reported that Osimhen had scored 59 goals in 74 appearances for Galatasaray, highlighting the scale of his contribution since arriving in Turkey.

Galatasaray therefore have little reason to rush into a sale unless the financial terms and sporting circumstances are considered sufficiently attractive.

That has made Arsenal’s reported interest considerably more complicated than a straightforward cash transfer.

The Osimhen saga has developed through several stages during the summer.

L’Équipe, citing The Telegraph, reported that the clubs had been discussing players including Martinelli and Nwaneri, with Osimhen’s situation entering those conversations.

However, the latest information attributed to The Athletic points away from the idea that Arsenal and Galatasaray are currently conducting active negotiations for Osimhen.

The important distinction is this: Arsenal’s reported interest does not necessarily mean a transfer is being negotiated at this moment.

Manchester United dealt Gavi blow

Manchester United’s transfer plans have also encountered another obstacle, with Barcelona midfielder Gavi reportedly turning down the possibility of moving to Old Trafford.

According to reports, United were prepared to meet a £35 million asking price for the Spain international, but Gavi is understood to favour staying at Barcelona.

The development represents another example of the difficulty United face when trying to recruit established players from Europe’s biggest clubs.

Gavi has developed through Barcelona’s academy and remains an important part of the club’s long-term midfield plans. The arrival of fellow Spain international Rodri at Barcelona has added further competition in midfield, but that has not necessarily translated into Gavi seeking an exit.

The Osimhen and Gavi situations underline two different problems facing Premier League clubs in the transfer market.

For Arsenal, the issue is not simply whether Osimhen is interested in moving to England. Galatasaray’s willingness to sell, the valuation of the striker and the structure of any potential deal are equally important.

For Manchester United, Gavi’s reported decision demonstrates that financial capacity alone cannot guarantee a signing. Even if a club is prepared to meet a player’s valuation, the player’s preference can ultimately determine whether negotiations progress.

United are also operating under financial limitations this summer. Manager Michael Carrick recently indicated that the club would not pursue a £100 million signing, despite pressure to make major additions.

For Osimhen, the immediate question is whether Arsenal or another European heavyweight will make a concrete proposal that changes Galatasaray’s position.
