Victor Osimhen has added another major milestone to his rapidly growing legacy at Galatasaray after his two-goal performance in the club’s 4–0 away victory over Erzurumspor.
The Nigeria international’s brace on Friday took his Galatasaray goal tally to 62 goals in 76 appearances, moving him beyond former Czech Republic striker Milan Baros on the Turkish giants’ all-time foreign goalscorers list. Current statistics also credit Osimhen with 16 assists during his time at the club.
The achievement underlines just how quickly the 27-year-old has climbed into Galatasaray’s record books.
Osimhen overtakes Milan Baros
Before Friday’s match, Osimhen was one goal behind Baros, who scored 61 times in 116 appearances for Galatasaray.
He needed only one match to move past the former Liverpool and Lyon forward.
Osimhen struck twice as Galatasaray produced a commanding performance at the Kazım Karabekir Stadium. Roland Sallai opened the scoring in the 12th minute before Yunus Akgün doubled the advantage eight minutes later.
The striker scored shortly before half-time to put Galatasaray three goals ahead before completing his brace in the 80th minute. The club’s official match report confirms the final score as 4–0, with Osimhen responsible for the third and fourth goals.
His first goal came after Erzurumspor goalkeeper Matija Orbanic was unable to clear the ball under pressure, allowing Osimhen to take advantage and finish into an unguarded net.
His second arrived late in the match following a move involving Gabriel Sara, with Osimhen finishing from close range.
The foreign goalscorers ahead of him
Osimhen’s latest achievement places him third among Galatasaray’s highest-scoring foreign players, according to the current figures reported after the Erzurumspor game.
The leading names are:
- Mauro Icardi – 77 goals
- Gheorghe Hagi – 72 goals
- Victor Osimhen – 62 goals
- Milan Baros – 61 goals
Osimhen is therefore only 10 goals behind Hagi and 15 behind Icardi.
What makes the Nigerian’s numbers particularly striking is the number of appearances required to reach the mark. While Icardi reached 77 goals in 134 matches and Hagi scored 72 in 192 appearances, Osimhen has reached 62 in just 76 games.
That difference highlights the remarkable scoring rate Osimhen has maintained since establishing himself in Istanbul.
A strong start to the new season
The record-breaking night also came at an important moment for Galatasaray.
The reigning Turkish champions opened their 2026/27 league campaign with a 2–2 draw against Çorum FK, leaving them without a victory after the opening round.
The response against Erzurumspor was emphatic.
Galatasaray dominated the match and secured their first league win of the campaign, moving to four points from their opening two fixtures. Erzurumspor, meanwhile, remained without a point after suffering their second defeat.
For Osimhen personally, the opening matches have provided an encouraging start. His goals against Erzurumspor took him to four league goals across Galatasaray’s first two matches, while he has also contributed an assist during that opening stretch.
Why the milestone matters
Osimhen’s rise up Galatasaray’s scoring chart is significant because the club has a long history of influential foreign attackers.
Hagi remains one of the most iconic foreign players ever to represent Galatasaray, while Icardi has established himself as the club’s leading foreign goalscorer in the modern era.
Osimhen is now firmly positioned between those two figures.
More importantly, he has reached the top three while still having substantial time to add to his tally. At 27, the Nigerian striker has an opportunity to challenge both Hagi and Icardi if he maintains his current scoring form.
His immediate target is Hagi’s 72-goal mark.
That means Osimhen needs 10 more goals to move into second place.
Icardi’s 77-goal record is only another five goals beyond Hagi’s total, making the top of the list potentially reachable if Osimhen continues producing at his current rate.
What comes next for Osimhen and Galatasaray?
The attention now turns to Galatasaray’s next league assignment.
Following the convincing victory in Erzurum, the champions are preparing for a home meeting with Göztepe at RAMS Park on August 29.
The fixture gives Osimhen another opportunity to add to his growing Galatasaray record and potentially move closer to Hagi’s second-place mark.
For Galatasaray, the bigger objective will be to build momentum after their opening-day draw and strengthen their defence of the Turkish title.
For Nigerian football fans, however, Osimhen’s individual pursuit will be equally compelling.
With 62 goals already on the board, the race to determine how high the Super Eagles striker can climb on Galatasaray’s historic foreign goalscorers list has become one of the most interesting individual storylines of the new season.
The next milestone is clear: 72 goals and Gheorghe Hagi.
