The blessing of Abraham is the outpouring of God’s grace, His covenant kindness, translated from the Hebrew word, “hesed.” It includes divine favour, fruitfulness, dominion, and most importantly, the promise of the Spirit. When God called Abraham, He said, “I will bless you and make you a blessing…and in you shall all the families of the earth be blessed” (Genesis 12:2-3). This was God’s prophetic declaration of the Gospel. It was the announcement of His plan to pour out His love and goodness on all humanity through faith. The Apostle Paul made it clear that this blessing has now come to the Gentiles through Jesus Christ. Thus, if you’re in Christ, you’re Abraham’s seed and an heir according to the promise (Galatians 3:29). You’re the fulfilment of God’s promise to Abraham thousands of years ago. That blessing includes justification, righteousness, the Holy Spirit, and divine access to God’s fullness.
