Manchester City star midfielder, Rodri, has openly admitted that he does not possess the magical influence of legendary forward Lionel Messi, who has won the prestigious Ballon d’Or on eight occasions.
Rodri made it clear that he cannot single-handedly secure victories for the Premier League giants, emphasizing that football success is always built on teamwork rather than individual brilliance.
The Spanish international shared his thoughts after City’s disappointing 2-1 defeat to Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Sunday. Despite returning to Pep Guardiola’s starting lineup, the midfielder struggled to inspire a turnaround, and City fell short once again.
This result now leaves Manchester City with just three points from their opening three matches of the new Premier League season, putting added pressure on Guardiola’s squad to rediscover their winning rhythm.
Rodri was quick to manage expectations from fans and the media:
“I’m not Messi. I’m not going to come back and make the team win and win,” Rodri stated.
He stressed that football is not about one man carrying the team but rather about collective effort.
“This is a collective sport; when we won in the past, I needed all my teammates,” he added.
The midfielder also acknowledged that he needs time to recover and return to his peak form, but he dismissed the idea that his mere presence would automatically secure City’s victories.
