The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three officers allegedly involved in the killing of a young commercial bus conductor, aged 20, during a stop-and-search operation in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to eyewitness accounts, the tragic event unfolded on Sunday night after a distress call was placed to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital. Reports indicated that one Abdulrashid Dayyabu, a resident of Maje Village in Maraban Jos, arrived at the hospital in a white J5 bus with registration number LSD 190 YE, carrying a passenger who had suffered a severe gunshot wound to the chest.
The victim was later identified as Nasir Abdulhakim, a 20-year-old bus conductor. Despite immediate medical intervention, he was confirmed dead upon arrival at the facility.
Details of the Incident
Preliminary investigations revealed that the commercial bus had been stopped by officers attached to the Millennium City Police Division along Kujama Road. However, the driver reportedly attempted to evade arrest, which resulted in a police chase. During the pursuit, one of the officers discharged his firearm, and the bullet struck the conductor in the chest.
Following the incident, the deceased’s remains were released to his family for burial, as requested by relatives in line with Islamic burial rites, after they declined an autopsy examination.
Police Response and Investigation
The Kaduna State Police Command has since confirmed the arrest of the three officers linked to the shooting. Authorities further disclosed that a comprehensive investigation is currently underway to establish the exact circumstances that led to the unlawful killing.
The command reassured the public of its commitment to justice and accountability, emphasizing that the case will not be swept under the carpet.
