The Federal Government has announced plans to revise the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, reducing it from 10 to six lanes to ensure cost efficiency and address design challenges. Senator David Umahi, the Minister of Works, shared this during a recent inspection of the highway. He explained that the revised proposal would soon be submitted to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for approval. Why the Revision? The adjustment became necessary due to design variations and unforeseen interventions, such as the removal and backfilling of 10-meter-deep refuse. The revision will also integrate salvaged structures, a gesture attributed to President Bola Tinubu’s intervention. Key Features of the Revised Highway Project Timeline and Goals Senator Umahi assured that the initial 20 kilometers of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway would be ready for inauguration by May 29, 2026.
