David Umahi, Nigeria’s Minister of Works and former governor of Ebonyi State, has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the current governor, Francis Nwifuru, completes eight uninterrupted years in office. Umahi made this promise during a Christmas homage visit paid to him by the Izzi National Youths Forum at his hometown, Uburu, in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. Expressing his unwavering support for Nwifuru, Umahi stated that his covenant with both God and Nwifuru is to ensure that the governor completes his two terms, as previous governors in the state have done. “God forbid that Izzi people stand against me tomorrow. My covenant with God and Nwifuru is to see him through eight years in office without interruption. Nothing will stop this,” Umahi asserted. He also recounted the battles he fought to secure Nwifuru’s governorship victory, emphasizing his continued ability to confront challenges.“Do you think I cannot do it now that I have someone by my side?” he asked rhetorically. Umahi reiterated his confidence in Nwifuru, describing him as the best governance option for Ebonyi State. He expressed no regrets over his decision to hand over the governorship seat to someone from the Izzi clan. “Nwifuru is humble, and I will remain by his side until his two terms are completed,” he affirmed. The Minister also praised the Izzi National Youths Forum for their loyalty and the significant turnout for the visit, despite it being a festive period. “It’s heartwarming to see you here celebrating with me when you could be with your son, the governor,” Umahi remarked. In his response, Andrew Elom, the National President of the Izzi National Youths Forum, thanked Umahi for keeping his promise to transfer the governorship seat to an Izzi indigene. He urged Umahi to continue mentoring Nwifuru, ensuring he stays on the right path throughout his administration. “This is your project. You initiated and nurtured it, and Governor Nwifuru needs your guidance to succeed,” Elom emphasized. Elom also commended Umahi for his exceptional performance as Minister of Works, highlighting the positive impact of his leadership on Nigeria, which mirrors his accomplishments in Ebonyi State. The Federal Government has announced plans to revise the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, reducing it from 10 to six lanes to ensure cost efficiency and address design challenges. Senator David Umahi, the Minister of Works, shared this during a recent inspection of the highway. He explained that the revised proposal would soon be submitted to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for approval. Why the Revision? The adjustment became necessary due to design variations and unforeseen interventions, such as the removal and backfilling of 10-meter-deep refuse. The revision will also integrate salvaged structures, a gesture attributed to President Bola Tinubu’s intervention. Key Features of the Revised Highway Project Timeline and Goals Senator Umahi assured that the initial 20 kilometers of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway would be ready for inauguration by May 29, 2026. Additionally, he emphasized the need for controllers to focus on delivering at least three critical projects, highlighting the government’s commitment to infrastructure development. The Minister was accompanied by Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, and other ministry officials during the tour.
