South-West Speakers Meet, Present Fresh Roadmap for Regional Advancement

The Speakers of the Houses of Assembly across the South-West region have reiterated their firm commitment to strengthening democratic structures, promoting deeper legislative collaboration, and accelerating sustainable socio-economic growth within the geopolitical zone.

This renewed pledge was highlighted in a communiqué collectively endorsed by leading legislative heads after their strategic meeting held in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The document was signed by the National Chairman of the Conference of Speakers and Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin; the Chairman of the South-West Speakers’ Forum and Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye; the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludaisi Olusegun Elemide; and the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Olumide Adewole Egbedun.

According to the communiqué, the Speakers emphasized the crucial need for stronger inter-parliamentary synergy to address developmental challenges facing the South-West. They reaffirmed that a united legislative front remains essential for achieving lasting growth, improving governance, and supporting reforms that positively influence the region’s economic landscape.

The meeting also served as an avenue for assessing previous collaborations and setting clearer legislative priorities that align with the collective aspirations of citizens across the six South-West states. The Speakers noted that the newly unveiled roadmap would guide future engagements, enabling state assemblies to work more efficiently toward shared goals in areas such as economic integration, security cooperation, education development, and infrastructural expansion.

They expressed optimism that the adopted framework would not only strengthen regional ties but also reinforce the role of legislative institutions in promoting accountability, transparency, and responsive governance. The leaders concluded that continuous partnership among South-West assemblies is vital for pushing transformative policies that support long-term prosperity and stability across the region.
