Deputy Governor Kadafur’s spokesperson, Dogo Shettima, confirmed the incident, stating, “Yes, it is true, and he is safe. They later boarded another flight to Abuja that evening.”

Lucy Dlama, a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on women’s affairs, who was also on board, described the ordeal as a miracle. She recounted, “We suddenly heard a loud noise, saw sparks of fire, and the plane became unstable. It was terrifying, but the pilot managed an emergency landing.”

Another passenger highlighted the critical actions taken by the pilot, who shut down the affected engine and skillfully guided the aircraft back to safety.

Background on Max Air Safety Concerns

This incident adds to ongoing concerns about Max Air’s safety record. Last year, in May, a Max Air flight crash-landed at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. In July, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) suspended operations of the airline’s Boeing 737 fleet, citing safety issues following multiple distress incidents.

The NCAA spokesperson, Michael Achimugu, stated that the agency had yet to be briefed on this latest event but promised updates after confirmation.
