Iran’s Defense Minister, Aziz Nasirzadeh, issued a stern warning on Sunday, asserting that Tehran would retaliate if either the United States or Israel initiated an attack. This declaration follows a missile strike by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi rebels, which landed near Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport, intensifying regional tensions.

The missile attack, which occurred on May 4, 2025, marked a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict. The projectile, reportedly a hypersonic ballistic missile, evaded interception by Israeli and U.S. defense systems, causing injuries and prompting temporary flight suspensions at Israel’s primary international airport.

In response to the attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to retaliate not only against the Houthis but also against their Iranian supporters. He emphasized that Israel would respond “at a time and place of our choosing” to what he described as Iran’s orchestration of the assault .

The United States, already engaged in military operations against Houthi targets in Yemen, reaffirmed its commitment to countering threats in the region. President Donald Trump reiterated that Iran would be held accountable for any attacks carried out by its proxies .

Amid these developments, Iran unveiled a new solid-fueled ballistic missile, the “Qassem Bassir,” boasting a range of 1,200 kilometers. This advancement underscores Tehran’s growing military capabilities and its readiness to respond to perceived threats .
