Veteran Nollywood actor turned politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has alleged that the Julius Abure-led Labour Party (LP) faction misled the party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi.

Okonkwo claimed that Abure and his executive team deceived Obi into believing that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially recognized them, a move that allegedly influenced the former Anambra State governor to resume collaboration with them.

He expressed frustration that despite informing Obi about his concerns—especially regarding the alleged connection between Abure’s leadership and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration—Obi still proceeded to publicly endorse the same faction.

During an exclusive interview with Symfoni TV, released on Saturday, Kenneth Okonkwo shared more insights.

He stated, “The faction under Julius Abure misinformed Obi, claiming they had received INEC’s recognition. Obi then secretly reconnected with them. I advised him respectfully: ‘Sir, you’ve made a public stand on integrity. INEC’s recognition should not be your sole reason to align with a faction that lacks democratic principles.’”

He continued, “I warned him that returning to their fold would damage his political credibility and everything he represents about ethical leadership.”

Okonkwo added, “I clearly told Obi that these individuals have become tools in the hands of the ruling government, whose mission is to undermine and destabilize him politically.”

Despite his warnings, within just 72 hours, Peter Obi reportedly revisited Abure’s office and offered public endorsement to the same leadership.

Okonkwo concluded by revealing, “While Obi was addressing the group during the visit, one of the executives recorded the session and sent it to me to mockingly prove that the same person I defended had now rejoined them.”
