Veteran Nollywood actor Kenneth Okonkwo has accused former presidential hopeful Peter Obi of betraying him during a period of internal conflict within the Labour Party (LP).

This claim was made during a trending interview the actor granted to Symfoni.

Okonkwo, who previously served as a prominent spokesperson for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, officially announced his resignation from the party in February 2025.

In the interview, Kenneth revealed that Obi disregarded his guidance and re-aligned himself with the disputed faction led by Julius Abure, which had been embroiled in a leadership controversy within the party.

According to the actor, Peter Obi was influenced by misleading claims made by Labour Party leaders who informed him that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had acknowledged their faction.

He explained,

“A well-informed politician cannot be easily betrayed.
If betrayal occurred between us, I must boldly say that Peter Obi betrayed me.”

He went on to state,

“Those supporting Julius Abure within LP misinformed Obi, alleging that INEC had officially recognised them. Obi, acting secretly, went back to join them despite my advice.
I told him: Sir, you made a public declaration of integrity. Even if INEC accepts them, it should not be the reason to return to a group that lacks democratic values. Doing so would damage your political credibility and everything you’ve stood for in terms of integrity.
