The Kebbi State Government has assured newly deployed National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members of improved welfare support and stronger security measures as they begin their one-year national service in the state.
The commitment was made during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch B Stream I corps members at the temporary NYSC orientation camp in Bausaura, Jega Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Representing Governor Nasir Idris at the event, the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Nurudeen Bala-Fingilla, said the administration recognizes the importance of the NYSC scheme in strengthening national integration and supporting grassroots development.
A total of 492 corps members participated in the orientation exercise, with the NYSC State Coordinator, Bala Dabo Kagarko, confirming that the group consists of 307 males and 185 females.
Government Highlights Role of Corps Members in Development
Governor Idris noted that NYSC members have continued to contribute to key sectors across Kebbi State, including education, healthcare delivery, agriculture, sanitation initiatives, and community-based projects.
He encouraged the corps members to approach their service year with commitment, describing the orientation programme as a period designed to prepare them for leadership, teamwork, discipline, and responsible citizenship.
According to the governor, their participation in host communities provides an opportunity to create meaningful impact while gaining valuable life and professional experiences.
Focus on Skills Beyond Government Employment
The governor also urged the corps members to take the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme seriously, emphasizing the need for young Nigerians to develop practical skills that can support financial independence.
He explained that entrepreneurship and vocational training remain important tools for youth empowerment, especially at a time when opportunities in formal employment continue to face pressure.
The SAED initiative, introduced through the NYSC programme, aims to expose graduates to business ideas and practical skills that can help them become employers of labour rather than only job seekers.
NYSC Members Advised to Maintain Discipline
The NYSC coordinator in Kebbi, Bala Dabo Kagarko, urged the newly sworn-in corps members to respect camp guidelines, remain disciplined, and uphold the values of the scheme throughout their service year.
He reminded them that their conduct during the programme would contribute to the success of their experience and their relationship with host communities.
The latest orientation exercise marks another phase in the continued deployment of young Nigerian graduates across different parts of the country to promote unity, cultural exchange, and national development.
