Authorities in Kano State have begun an investigation into the death of a young man identified as Isma’il Makaye after a popular TikTok personality, Fati Cele, was taken into police custody in connection with the incident.
The case has attracted public attention due to the online popularity of the individuals involved and the circumstances surrounding Makaye’s death, which occurred at Cele’s residence in the Danbare area of Kano.
Cele, who is originally from Borno State, is known for her presence on TikTok, where she has built a following of more than 32,000 users through her social media activities. She reportedly lives in a rented apartment in the Danbare community.
According to accounts from people familiar with the incident, neighbours were alerted after Cele reportedly came outside her residence calling for help and raising an alarm about a possible fire. Residents who responded to the situation were said to have discovered Makaye inside the home with injuries.
Witnesses alleged that the deceased had suffered burn injuries and visible signs of trauma before he was taken to a medical facility in an attempt to save his life. He was reportedly rushed to Nassarawa Hospital, where efforts were made to provide emergency treatment.
The matter was later reported to the police, leading officers from the Dorayi Babba Police Division to detain Cele while investigations continued. Authorities have not yet released an official statement detailing the findings of the inquiry.
Relationship History Being Examined
People close to both individuals have revealed that Makaye and Cele were in a relationship and had experienced difficulties in the past. The pair were reportedly separated at one point before reconnecting recently.
Makaye, who was involved in cosmetics trading, was based in the Hotoro Tishama area of Kano. Following the release of his remains, family members and associates reportedly carried out his burial at Unguwa Uku Yan Awaki.
The ongoing investigation is expected to determine the events that led to the tragedy and establish whether any criminal offence occurred.
