JTF Arrests Two Suspects, Raids Alleged ESN Camps in Southeast Nigeria

The Joint Security Task Force (JTF) in Nigeria’s southeast region has announced the arrest of two suspected members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and the seizure of various weapons during a series of coordinated raids across the region.

Key Raids and Operations

Imo State – Uhuala-Aku, Okigwe LGA
On December 5, JTF operatives, acting on credible intelligence, raided a camp in Uhuala-Aku, Okigwe LGA, Imo State. Jonah Unuakhalu, the JTF spokesperson, stated that the task force destroyed 26 makeshift accommodations at the site.

Upon arrival, the JTF engaged with ESN members, who fled into nearby forests due to the troops’ superior firepower. Recovered items included:

  • Weapons: A G3 rifle, two pump-action rifles, three dane guns, a locally fabricated pistol, and ammunition (12 rounds of 5.56mm and five rounds of 7.62mm NATO).
  • Other Items: A human skull in a sack, a Toyota Hilux vehicle, six radio chargers, 20 car keys, and one Baofeng radio.

Arrests in Ebonyi State – Okposi Community
The JTF apprehended two suspects in the Okposi community of Ebonyi State. Seized items included:

  • Two locally fabricated pistols.
  • Nine live cartridges.
  • One motorcycle.

Enugu State – Agu Orba Ekwegbe, Nsukka LGA

In another operation, troops from Sector 1, in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), raided an alleged ESN camp in Agu Orba Ekwegbe, Nsukka LGA, Enugu State.
Recovered items included:

  • Weapons: Two general-purpose machine guns (GPMG), one single-barrel gun, 12 rifles under construction, two single-revolver pistols, 10 pistols under construction, and two pistol magazines.
  • Ammunition: 335 rounds of 7.62mm by 51mm, 12 rounds of pump-action cartridges, and 11 empty cartridges.
  • Additional Items: 21 pairs of military desert boots, eight military raincoats, IPOB/ESN flags, a first aid box, six cutlasses, two knives, bags of rice and garri.

The camp was subsequently destroyed to prevent its reuse.
