Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us (Romans 8:37). 1 Samuel 17 tells us how the Israelites were embroiled in conflict with the Philistines, a prominent enemy nation. The Philistines had gathered a formidable army and their champion, Goliath, stood defiantly, challenging the Israelites to send out a warrior to face him in single combat. For forty days, Goliath taunted and mocked the Israelite soldiers. The Israelite army found themselves petrified by dread at the thought of confronting Goliath. But in the midst of this dire situation, young David, a stripling, not qualified to be in the army, arrived at the front lines and heard Goliath’s taunts echoing in the valley. Incensed by the giant’s defiance against Israel and its God, David began to inquire about the situation and what would be done for the man who killed the Philistine champion. However, David’s inquiries were met with scepticism from his oldest brother, Eliab, who questioned his motives. “Why did you come down here?” Eliab demanded. His words dripped with contempt, suggesting that David was merely a shepherd and naive for thinking he could challenge Goliath. Undeterred by Eliab’s reproach, David continued to make inquiries until he was brought before King Saul. There, he confidently recounted his experiences as a shepherd: “…I’ve been a shepherd, tending sheep for my father. Whenever a lion or bear came and took a lamb from the flock, I’d go after it, knock it down, and rescue the lamb. If it turned on me, I’d grab it by the throat, wring its neck, and kill it. Lion or bear, it made no difference–I killed it. And I’ll do the same to this Philistine pig who is taunting the troops of God-Alive” (1 Samuel 17:34-36 MSG). What a response David gave! David didn’t argue with Eliab or try to prove himself. Instead, he calmly shared his testimony of God’s faithfulness. By doing so, he shifted the focus from his brother’s cynicism to God’s power working through him. Of course, David defeated Goliath, decapitated him, and walked through the streets holding the giant’s head. Summarily, no one dared to challenge him anymore. His victory spoke louder than any words ever could. Always remember David’s example when doubters and detractors try to talk you down. Stay focused on your calling and your assignment. Trust in God’s grace and ability at work in you, and your victories will silence your hecklers. PRAYERDear Father, thank you for the wisdom and boldness you’ve given me. I refuse to be intimidated by opposition or the voices of doubt and unbelief, for the greater One lives in me. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-12). Our opening scripture lists for us the fivefold ministry gifts or offices in the body of Christ: apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. Through these ministry gifts and offices, the Lord builds up His Church, ensuring that every member is equipped for the work of the ministry. However, among all the ministry offices, it’s the pastoral ministry that God specifically holds responsible for the congregation. While there are others who may function as pastors for a period of time by God’s commission, they may not necessarily be called to the pastoral office. Some assume that being a minister of God means one must pastor a church, but this is not so. Pastoring a church is a unique calling, and stepping into it without being specifically called by God could lead to regrettable extremities. The pastor’s office has a special calling and ability to deal with the problems of people on a regular basis. When those who aren’t called to be pastors take on that role, the burdens and challenges of the people can weigh heavily on them. Some of the issues shared by congregants can rub off on them, causing them to experience similar difficulties. It takes that divine power to deal with such situations. This is why some ministers, after counselling others, find themselves becoming victims of the very situations they tried to help resolve. It’s because the counselling wasn’t done with a pastoral calling or pastoral ability. So, it pays to be in your calling. It’s important to teach God’s children as many are unaware of the distinctions between the different offices and how they operate in God’s plan. And thanks be unto God! The Lord is building His Church, training and preparing His labourers for the task at hand. PRAYERDear Father, thank you for setting ministers in the body of Christ according to your divine wisdom. I walk in the fullness of my calling, functioning in the grace and ability you have given me. The ministry of the Holy Spirit is so vital for every Christian; He’s our teacher and our guide, and when you rely on Him, He’ll teach you everything you need to know about life and guide you on how to live triumphantly every day, fulfilling your God-given purpose. If you’re a Pastor, for example, you need His guidance at all times. Pastors deal with many people, each with different challenges and questions. Often, people come to church with burdens, seeking answers, and a pastor cannot simply pick a subject at random. That’s why it’s important to pray and expect guidance from the Holy Spirit. A pastor or a leader, for instance, may already be dealing with a particular subject in church, but every service is unique. Therefore, each service must be approached with the understanding that the Lord has something definite for everyone. But how can this be achieved? How can the Word be ministered in such a way that it meets each one at their respective points of need? It’s only through the Holy Spirit. The Lord Jesus said, “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water” (John 7:38). That living water—the Word of God—pours forth through you by the Holy Spirit. If you give Him attention, His Word will flow from you like water poured on a thirsty soul, bringing answers to questions, solutions to problems, healing to the afflicted, restoration to the broken-hearted, sight to the blind, and courage to the disheartened. This principle is not just for pastors—it applies to every Christian. The Holy Spirit lives in you and desires to guide you daily in all things. Recognize His presence in you and encourage His ministry in your life. He’ll teach you, lead you, and cause His Word to flow through you to impact others. Hallelujah! Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed (1 Corinthians 15:51). Many misinterpret Hebrews 9:27, which says, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” They conclude from this verse that every person must die once. But the actual rendering is that because it was appointed for men to die once, Christ died once for all humanity. His death was the fulfilment of that appointment, not a statement that every individual is doomed to die physically. The Gospel of Jesus Christ abolishes mortality. 2 Timothy 1:10 says, Christ Jesus abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel. This is a present reality for those in Christ. You’ve been brought into immortality—deathlessness. Immortality means you don’t die. Some argue that men like Enoch and Elijah who were taken by God without dying must return to earth to experience physical death. This is also absurd, as it undermines the essence of the Gospel and the victory of Christ over death. The Lord Jesus declared, “…I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die…” (John 11:25-26). The revelation of eternal life is vital. John wrote, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life…” (1 John 5:13). Eternal life is the nature of God imparted to the human spirit at the New Birth, and you must live daily with the consciousness that you have passed from death to life. Life works in you now that you’re born again. This knowledge and revelation is necessary for you to walk in the fullness of God’s plan for your life. Mortality has been defeated, and you’ve been called to walk in the realms and reality of immortality. The generation of the Church that hears and acts on this message is the generation of the Rapture, and we’re that generation. The police in Otu-Jeremi Division, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State have arrested a 48-year-old father with HIV AIDS for defiling his 10-year-old daughter. According to LMSINT MEDIA, the suspect, identified as David, was taken into custody Friday morning after a medical examination revealed that the minor’s father had repeatedly slept with unwary women in the community and had allegedly infected his wife. According to LMSINT MEDIA, Mr. David’s problems began when his wife noticed their daughter became ill and emetic. She reportedly took the young child for a Police arrest man for defiling daughter, infecting her with HIV Aids in Delta The Police in Otu-Jeremi Division, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State have arrested a forty eight, 48 year old father living with HIV AIDS for defiling his 10-year old daughter. The suspect, identified as David, was arrested Friday morning, LMSINT MEDIA can report. Medical examination conducted by the Police indicated constant penetration of the minor by her father. It was gathered that the suspect had consistently slept with unsuspecting women in the community and had also allegedly infected his wife. LMSINT MEDIA reports that trouble started for Mr David after his wife noticed their daughter became sickly and ematiated. She reportedly took the young child for medical examination where her HIV status was confirmed. Following interrogation, the child revealed that the father had been defiling her for sometime now. However, the child’s declined comments when our correspondent sought to speak with her on the matter. There were indications that members of her husband’s family were pressuring her to recant her claims, withdraw the matter from the police and effect the husband’s release from custody. When contacted for comments, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe confirmed the reports in a text message and phone chat with our correspondent in Warri. In the text message, he said,”I don’t know about AIDs but yes he is in custody.” Also in a telephone chat he said,”Yes! Over the years, I’ve abandoned the idea of making New Year’s resolutions. Instead, my sole exception is setting the tone for the year with the help of the Almighty, through fasting and prayer. These rituals may not be easy or enjoyable, but they bring surprising health benefits and serve as a reminder of God’s presence in my life. I don’t take this lightly, even if the process leaves me looking like someone who’s just come from a war-torn zone! As I reflect on 2024, I can’t help but express my gratitude to God for His continuous guidance. I also salute the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for their tireless work, even as some drivers continue to ignore regulations—though they still manage to thank the Corps for keeping them in check despite their violations. 2024 marked a significant milestone for me, as it was the year I bade farewell to a 28-year career in the Federal Road Safety Corps. Through this journey, I had the honor of contributing to initiatives like “Oga Driver” and “Celebrity Special Marshal,” platforms that allowed me to make an imprint in the hearts of many. My path has been truly blessed, and I am hopeful that 2025 will bring even greater promises. Though I’ve left the Corps, my commitment to saving lives and promoting road safety remains unchanged. I am confident that the Corps, under the leadership of my friend and mentor, Shehu Mohammed, will continue to deliver effective policing and timely responses to accidents. One pressing concern for me this year is the alarming number of accidents caused by petrol-laden tankers. As part of my 2025 agenda, I’m calling for a renewed focus on preventing such crashes that devastate families and communities. You may have already seen my articles shedding light on the importance of using the right terminology when referring to road incidents. For instance, my recent piece, “Was That Mass Fatality Another Crash?” examined the tragic tanker accident in Niger State. Similarly, I wrote about a deadly crash in Enugu State that claimed the lives of 15 people, including an entire family. I’ve also been addressing the misconception that crashes are “accidents.” A true accident is an unforeseeable event, whereas a crash is preventable. In “Was That Fatal Crash an Accident?” I analyzed the incident in Benue State, where nine family members tragically lost their lives due to preventable circumstances. One of the core issues I continue to emphasize is speeding. In “Check Your Speed in 2025,” I explored the dangers of excessive speed. Speed not only increases the likelihood of a crash, but also exacerbates the consequences. The faster you go, the less time you have to react. For example, a car traveling at 50 km/h requires 13 meters to come to a stop, but a car going at 40 km/h only needs 8.5 meters. The risks are even more severe when speed limits are ignored. Going just 5 km/h over the speed limit increases the risk of a crash significantly, and at higher speeds, the chances of fatality increase dramatically. This is why countries worldwide, including Nigeria, set speed limits. Limiting vehicle speed helps reduce crashes and minimizes the severity of injuries. In Nigeria, speed limits are clearly defined: on expressways, private cars can go up to 100 km/h, while taxis and buses are capped at 90 km/h. In built-up areas like residential and commercial zones, the speed limit is reduced from 50 km/h to 30 km/h, reflecting the need for heightened caution in these areas. As we move forward into 2025, I urge you to embrace the call for safer roads, consider the impact of speed on crash outcomes, and contribute to making our streets safer for everyone.
