Liverpool manager Arne Slot has strongly criticized Newcastle United’s style of football during their Premier League clash on Monday night at St James’ Park.

The Premier League champions nearly lost control of the game after letting go of a two-goal advantage, but eventually secured a hard-fought 3-2 win against the Magpies.

How the Match Unfolded

The Reds looked dominant early in the game as Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike struck to put Liverpool two goals ahead in what turned out to be a fiercely contested encounter.

However, Newcastle responded with resilience. Goals from Bruno Guimaraes and William Osula brought the scoreline level, sparking hopes of an incredible comeback from Eddie Howe’s men.

Despite the pressure, young star Rio Ngumoha scored a dramatic late winner for Liverpool, sealing all three points and keeping the Reds firmly at the top of the Premier League table.

Arne Slot’s Reaction After the Game

Speaking to Sky Sports, Slot didn’t hold back his thoughts on Newcastle’s tactics.

“I’m not too sure if I saw a football match today. It was set-piece after set-piece, long throw,” Slot remarked.

He further explained that the game had little tactical display from Newcastle’s side, yet he praised his team’s determination and mental strength to push through the challenge.

“It didn’t have a lot to do with tactics, what I said before the game, but I liked a lot how we stood strong. Very difficult first half hour, 45 minutes, but we didn’t collapse at all, we stood strong,” he added.

What This Means for Liverpool

This victory highlights Liverpool’s ability to remain composed under pressure. It also shows the growing influence of young talents like Ngumoha, who is quickly becoming a player to watch in the Premier League title race.

For Newcastle, the result raises further questions about their reliance on physical set-pieces rather than open play creativity, something critics believe could limit their ambitions this season.
