He added that the death certificate presented by the prosecution holds no valid legal merit in the ongoing case, stating: “Let it be known that the so-called death certificate of Ahmed Gulak, former aide to ex-President Jonathan, has no evidentiary value whatsoever in the context of the ongoing trial.” Emma Powerful also criticized prosecuting counsel Awomolo SAN for attempting to reintroduce evidence after concluding the examination-in-chief, calling it a dishonest and unethical legal move. He explained: “The Federal Government’s prosecuting counsel, Awomolo SAN, acting with shocking dishonesty, attempted to reintroduce evidence after closing his examination-in-chief—an unethical and unacceptable legal maneuver designed only to mask the shame of a failed prosecution.” Clarifying the date of the sit-at-home, Powerful stressed that: “The sit-at-home observance declared by IPOB for the annual 30th May Remembrance Day in 2021 was held on Monday, 31st May 2021, not Sunday the 30th. Gulak was murdered on Sunday, a full day before the observance.” He further accused the Federal Government of trying to manipulate historical narratives for political gain and ethnic scapegoating. He likened the situation to the 1966 military coup, which was wrongly branded as an “Igbo coup,” thus leading to civil unrest and ethnic violence. “We remind the world that this is not the first time the Nigerian State has weaponized misinformation and historical revisionism to justify ethnic persecution. The Amirul Hajj of Ogun State, Alhaji Samsudeen Apelogun, has successfully arrived in Saudi Arabia with 247 additional intending pilgrims, marking the final phase of the state’s 2025 Hajj delegation. This final batch from Ogun State touched down at Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport at approximately 2:10 a.m. on Thursday. Their flight departed from Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, completing the airlift of all intending pilgrims from the state. Alhaji Apelogun, who leads the contingent, delivered a message of caution and encouragement to the pilgrims. He advised them to exhibit exemplary conduct and moral behavior while in the Holy Land, emphasizing that their actions should reflect the values of both Ogun State and Nigeria. It is important to note that the initial batch of 428 pilgrims departed the previous Sunday, bringing the total number of 2025 Hajj participants from Ogun State to 675. The Amirul Hajj, who also holds the title of Asiwaju Adeen of Ogun State Muslim Community, reminded the pilgrims of their responsibility as representatives of Nigeria. He urged them to stay clear of actions that could tarnish the reputation of their home state and the nation as a whole. “I advise you to avoid prohibited items, steer clear of unauthorized movements, and comply strictly with the guidelines issued by both the State Muslim Welfare Board and Saudi authorities,” Apelogun stated. He reassured the pilgrims of their safety and welfare, noting that Governor Dapo Abiodun had made significant provisions for their comfort. According to Apelogun, the state government’s support includes generous welfare packages and spiritual support to ensure a fulfilling and secure pilgrimage.
