In John 10:32-38 we read about the Lord Jesus and the scepticism of the Jewish leaders as they accused Him of blasphemy, seeking an opportunity to arrest Him. Verse 39 says, “Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand” (John 10:39). Now, notice the latter portion that says “he escaped out of their hand.” Some have said He escaped out of fear; that’s not true, because He didn’t have it in Him to fear. Remember, He faced death and refused to avoid it even when He had the chance. He escaped on this occasion because it wasn’t the appointed time for His sacrifice. If He had allowed them to harm Him, the Father would have intervened, and they would have been destroyed. Jesus knew this. He said in Matthew 26:53, “Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?” This was the Son of God, fully aware of His authority and the power of angels at His command. Consider Elisha and his servant when they were surrounded by an army. The servant was afraid, but Elisha told him, “…Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.” And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha” (2 Kings 6:16-17). If that happened with Elisha, then think about the Lord Jesus. He knew He had myriads of angels with Him. His actions were purposeful, demonstrating that He was always in control. Even under pressure, He maintained His focus on fulfilling the will of the Father, showing us the perfect example of courage and confidence in God’s plan. This same Jesus lives in us today by His Spirit, and His boldness is ours. Like Him, you must trust the Father completely, walking in the assurance of His love, power, and perfect purpose for your life. Psalm 118:6 says, “The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?” Furthermore, the Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 1:7 reinforces this truth: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” Hallelujah! That was what got the Jews mad; their religious minds couldn’t accept or relate with the audacity and conviction with which Jesus spoke of His oneness with the Father. And we’re just like Him. Personnel of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), have successfully eliminated a suspected armed bandit in Taraba State, retrieving an AK-47 rifle during the mission. According to a press statement issued on Wednesday by Captain Oni Olubodunde, Acting Public Relations Officer for the Brigade, the operation occurred during a clearance patrol in Karim Lamido Local Government Area. This recent military engagement was a direct result of a strategic assessment tour conducted by Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, the Brigade Commander, to Bandawa community, where he reiterated the importance of proactive military interventions and enhanced presence to maintain security in the region. “Following the Commander’s directives, troops on a combative patrol along Bandawa–Karim Lamido Road made contact with armed assailants,” the spokesperson explained. “In a rapid and accurate response, our personnel neutralized one of the bandits and successfully recovered one AK-47 assault rifle, in addition to 39 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.” Captain Olubodunde emphasized that the success of the operation reflects the unwavering commitment of the 6 Brigade to eradicate criminal elements from Taraba State and reinforce enduring peace in the region. Meanwhile, on May 12, 2025, a community peace meeting took place to ease growing tensions between residents of Kashimbila (in Takum LGA, Taraba) and Jato Aka (in Kwande LGA, Benue State). The continuous unrest between the two communities had previously led to several violent incidents affecting motorists along the Kashimbila–Jato Aka road. The Federal High Court in Kano has deferred the sentencing of well-known TikTok influencer Murja Ibrahimi Kunya to May 20, due to a sudden decision by the prosecution to modify the charge against her. Murja faces a single-count charge brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing her of misconduct involving the Nigerian currency. This allegation emerged after a widely circulated video captured her spraying and dancing on ₦400,000 during a celebration at Tahir Guest Palace Hotel in Kano in December 2024. Murja had earlier admitted guilt to the accusation. During the Tuesday session, originally set for verdict and sentencing, EFCC prosecutor Musa Isa made an unexpected plea to revise the current charge. Murja’s legal representative, Abubakar Saka, firmly objected to the change, stating that making alterations at such a late stage could delay the case and compromise the defendant’s right to a fair trial. He emphasized the need for sufficient time to assess the proposed changes thoroughly. Despite the objection, Justice Simon Amobeda approved the prosecution’s application, asserting that the amendment was necessary to uphold justice. The case was subsequently rescheduled to May 20 for further proceedings. Until the new date, the court ruled that Murja would remain under the supervision of her legal counsel. The existing bail terms remain active, including the condition that she must appear in court on the scheduled date.
