As Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 general elections, President Bola Tinubu is encountering rising opposition from factions within his own political circle. Notably, some of the strongest allies of former President Muhammadu Buhari, previously united under the All Progressives Congress (APC) umbrella, are now aligning themselves with opposition movements to scuttle Tinubu’s second-term ambition, according to observations by LMSINT MEDIA. What initially appeared to be hushed disagreements among the APC’s influential power brokers has now grown into open resistance, involving many of Buhari’s most trusted lieutenants. Among the prominent figures are ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal, along with other key members of Buhari’s cabinet such as Rotimi Amaechi and Abubakar Malami. These individuals, once considered pillars of the APC, have begun to coalesce around a new opposition alliance, fueling fresh questions about the governing party’s internal cohesion. A former National Chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun, is also part of the emerging bloc. This new coalition recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform, with the controversial selection of ex-Senate President David Mark as interim national chairman and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as its secretary. Internal cracks within the APC are not exactly novel. Tinubu, who was instrumental in Buhari’s 2015 rise to the presidency, now appears increasingly alienated from the same network he once helped empower. The APC itself was created in 2013 as a merger of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Buhari’s Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), and the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). Although the coalition was a strategic masterstroke, it was always delicate. Buhari’s 2015 presidential victory — his fourth attempt — largely rode on Tinubu’s political reach in the South-West, alongside powerful alliances with northern heavyweights like El-Rufai and Amaechi. By the 2023 election cycle, the political tide had shifted. Tinubu, describing his presidential aspiration as a “lifelong ambition,” secured the APC nomination despite fierce challenges from within the party ranks. His eventual win came in a general election riddled with controversy, including a chaotic currency redesign, the divisive Muslim-Muslim ticket, and serious concerns over his health and cognitive performance during the campaign. Remarkably, Tinubu lost in the so-called ‘K states’ — Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina — all seen as Buhari’s northern fortresses, yet still won the presidency. Tinubu’s connection with Nasir El-Rufai had always been transactional. After initially being considered for a cabinet appointment under Tinubu’s administration, El-Rufai was later removed based on a security report. Their falling out was rapid and bitter. “Forgive me for bringing this evil Tinubu to power in 2023. It won’t happen again in 2027. The guy is gone,” El-Rufai reportedly told a group of his supporters in May, a remark that went viral on social media and gave a boost to northern opposition elements. El-Rufai, who previously served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has since decamped to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), where he is said to be coordinating a wider coalition involving elements of the ADC, PDP, SDP, and disenfranchised APC members. While the coalition appears powerful on paper, boasting veterans like Atiku Abubakar, Sule Lamido, David Mark, Aminu Tambuwal, Amaechi, and Babachir Lawal, questions still swirl around its ideological consistency and ability to stay united. Even Dumebi Kachikwu, the ADC’s 2023 presidential candidate, has described the coalition’s maneuver as illegitimate, arguing that they are working with expired party officials. “The coalition is dealing with people whose tenure expired in 2022. We are watching with amusement,” Kachikwu stated. In spite of these headwinds, Tinubu is not seen as a political rookie. Often called the “master strategist” for crafting the APC and capturing Lagos for the opposition in 1999, he has survived numerous political battles. A top Tinubu aide, speaking anonymously, said the president is “unshaken” by the new coalition, and is already working to rebuild alliances. “Remember 2023? They said he wouldn’t survive the Muslim-Muslim backlash. They said he wouldn’t get the APC ticket. He did both. Don’t count him out,” the aide insisted. Tinubu is also reported to be reaching out to traditional northern political power structures to rebuild confidence, especially in states he lost last time. There are even speculations that Tinubu could replace his vice president, Shettima, with Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State to boost his 2027 chances. With the PDP still fragmented and the APC battling internal mutiny, the 2027 contest could dramatically redefine Nigeria’s political landscape once again. But, at least for now, both sides are adopting a wait-and-see strategy. Meanwhile, some of Buhari’s loyalists, operating under the banner of the Forum of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) within the APC, recently reiterated their support for President Tinubu. During a gathering in Abuja on Thursday, this bloc included dignitaries such as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas (who was represented), Katsina State Governor Dr. Dikko Radda, Niger State Governor Umar Bago (also represented), Foreign Affairs Minister Maitama Tuggar, former Nasarawa State Governor Senator Tanko Al-Makura, former Katsina Governor and former House Speaker Aminu Bello Masari, and the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), retired General Buba Marwa. They emphasized that, although individuals are free to pursue their ambitions, they should not do so under the pretext of being “defunct CPC members.” Addressing the question of whether their bloc would still stand behind Tinubu, Hon. Farouk Adamu expressed confidence that the president would continue as their candidate in 2027. “We are with Tinubu just as we stood with our leader (Buhari), and we strongly believe Tinubu will remain our candidate for 2027,” he declared. The anti-Tinubu coalition, meanwhile, hopes to replicate the 2015 strategy, when a patchwork of opposition parties overthrew an incumbent. But Tinubu, whose political style is famously unpredictable, may still have several tricks up his sleeve. And in Nigerian politics, underestimating a veteran strategist can come with a steep price. Abuja – The Nigerian Presidency, reacting to the takeover of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by high-profile opposition actors, has ridiculed the new opposition coalition, dismissing it as a gathering of politically displaced figures lacking real substance. The All Progressives Congress (APC) also issued a similar stance, labeling the ADC’s realignment as an association of vengeful power-seekers, declaring it had no worries about their activities. Additionally, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Mr. Nyesom Wike condemned the anti-Tinubu movement, branding its leadership as a team of expired and failed politicians. This development unfolded as the Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential flag-bearer, Mr. Peter Obi, pledged his backing for the coalition, which intends to unseat President Bola Tinubu’s administration in 2027. Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clarified that it had not formally joined the coalition but maintained openness to align with like-minded Nigerians to challenge the APC in the 2027 elections. At the same time, the LP led by Senator Nenadi Usman urged the public to ignore reports of a 48-hour ultimatum demanding Obi resign or risk expulsion. Separately, Mr. Dumebi Kachikwu, who contested for president under the ADC in 2023, outlined conditions under which he would throw his weight behind the coalition. It should be noted that opposition elements had formally taken over the ADC’s party machinery to use as their platform for the 2027 election. Within this movement, former Senate President David Mark was appointed interim National Chairman, while former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola was chosen as interim Secretary. According to Dare, “Rotimi Amaechi’s spirit departed from the APC in 2022 after failing to win the party’s presidential ticket. Likewise, Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney General, has been clearly disengaged since Tinubu emerged, especially following his failed bid to govern Kebbi State.” He described them as lacking principle or vision, a collection of desperate men and women unable to accept political irrelevance, bonded only by their dislike of Tinubu, without a coherent national development agenda. Dare warned that a coalition based purely on shared bitterness cannot deliver a new Nigeria, urging citizens to stay alert and not be fooled by what he called a weak and short-lived movement. “This is no credible force for change, but merely a group of politically homeless people seeking relevance,” he stated. Speaking on Lunchtime Politics, a Channels Television political affairs programme, Dalung emphasized on Thursday that the coalition’s adoption of the ADC had strictly adhered to the proper procedures. He clarified that no hijacking took place, countering Kachikwu’s earlier accusations that the coalition took over the party without consulting important stakeholders. It is worth noting, as reported by LMSINT MEDIA, that Dumebi Kachikwu had previously claimed the coalition usurped control of the party, failing to involve key figures within the party in the process. Dalung explained that discussions surrounding the coalition had been ongoing for approximately 18 months, with active participation from crucial stakeholders of the ADC. He further mentioned that these stakeholders were present and took part in the unveiling of the coalition. He elaborated by stating, “The chairman of the board of trustees of the party was in attendance. So, it wasn’t a hijack because the members of the party were there, and the coalition elements were there to witness the transition of leadership.” According to Dalung, Kachikwu might have been unaware of these developments due to being out of touch with recent activities within the party, which could have contributed to his misunderstanding of the situation. Dalung added that although Kachikwu had the right to express his concerns, the ADC under its new leadership would handle the issues appropriately. The former sports minister reminded the public that the coalition was formally inaugurated on a Wednesday, with David Mark, a former President of the Nigerian Senate, being named interim chairman of the party. Romans 8:29 says, “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate….” Predestination is at work in you. God has a divine plan for your life, and He has set events and their sequence in motion in line with His divine plan. Consider John the Baptist, for example, whose entire ministry was for the sole purpose of making the Messiah known to Israel. God could have simply told John where to find Jesus, but John had to follow God’s instructions and wait for the sign he was given: “…Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit” (John 1:33 NKJV). Finally, Jesus stood before him, and John recognized Him (John 1:29-34). It unfolded precisely according to God’s divine plan. Consider, too, Samuel’s intriguing visit to anoint one of Jesse’s sons as king (1 Samuel 16:1-13). Samuel thought he had found the Lord’s anointed when he saw Eliab, with his impressive stature. But God said, “Not him, for I have rejected him” (1 Samuel 16:7). One by one, Jesse brought seven of his sons before Samuel, and each time God said, “Not this one.” God could have simply told Samuel who to anoint, but He allowed the process to unfold step by step. Finally, Samuel asked Jesse, “Are here all thy children?” Jesse admitted that there was still one more son, David, who was tending the sheep. When David was brought before Samuel, the Lord said, “…Arise, anoint him: for this is he” (1 Samuel 16:12). God’s divine plan for David came to pass according to His preordained design. God has a plan for your life and it’s a good one. He has predestined your life for His glory, and He knows exactly where you are in His divine plan. You don’t need to be in a hurry or get in a frenzy trying to fulfil His destiny for your life. He has all the events and their sequence planned out in line with His divine purpose. Yours is to follow the path which He’s prearranged ahead of time. Ephesians 2:10 AMPC says, “For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].” PRAYERDear Father, I trust you wholeheartedly, knowing that you have predestined my life for your glory. Festus Keyamo, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has become significantly stronger due to the recent coalition movement into the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Keyamo described this development as a major turning point that has fortified the APC as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections. Keyamo made this assertion via his verified X platform (formerly known as Twitter) on Wednesday. He highlighted that under Nigerian law, it is prohibited for individuals to simultaneously associate with more than one political party. According to him, the public declaration of allegiance to the ADC amounts to an obvious abandonment of their former political affiliations. “The law clearly states that membership of two political parties is grounds for disqualification from contesting in an election,” Keyamo emphasized. The minister further explained that the ADC’s present configuration represents what he termed the “formal disintegration” of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), once regarded as Nigeria’s strongest opposition party. In his view, the PDP has been weakened as older party leaders have been displaced by younger figures who have seized control within the party. Keyamo remarked that the recent gathering of political figures consisted predominantly of individuals with former ties to the PDP, characterizing it as a faction led by Atiku Abubakar in pursuit of the 2027 presidential ticket. “Today’s assembly was simply a coalition of former PDP stalwarts searching for relevance. At the core, it is Atiku’s wing of the PDP striving for the 2027 presidential candidacy — nothing more, nothing less,” he posted. Moreover, Keyamo observed that some members of the new coalition include ex-APC members who had either opposed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the last election or failed to secure victories in their constituencies during the 2023 polls. He stressed that their defection would not weaken the APC in any way. “On the contrary, this is advantageous for the APC because it is akin to removing the parasite that was causing internal harm,” Keyamo stated. He also alleged that the so-called old political strategists within the PDP intend to leverage Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, to garner votes without offering him the presidential ticket. He referred to the coalition as merely an “Atiku-driven agenda.” “If Peter Obi isn’t given the presidential ticket, his supporters will be alienated — it’s as simple as that. How can you justify making someone who won two regions — the South-East and South-South — play second fiddle as a running mate to a candidate who secured only the North-East?” Keyamo queried. In his conclusion, Keyamo predicted that by the time the situation unfolds fully, the PDP and Labour Party would have suffered losses, the ADC would gain little of substance, and the APC would remain unaffected. “Since the 2023 polls, APC has continued to grow stronger, while the opposition camps have become divided and increasingly fragile,” Keyamo maintained. “When you compare those who have joined the APC — governors, senators, and House of Representatives members — with the few who have exited, the APC undoubtedly stands stronger. That is the key point in all of this analysis,” he explained. Finally, Keyamo called on Nigerians to respect the constitutional rights of opposition members to associate freely, while the APC-led government remains focused on delivering good governance.

Letep Dabang, who previously served as the Director General of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial campaign during the 2023 governorship election in Plateau State, has officially resigned from his role as Political Adviser to Governor Caleb Mutfwang. The political heavyweight has now returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), rekindling ties with his former party. Dabang, well known for his earlier tenure as Plateau State APC Chairman under former Governor Simon Lalong, initially defected to the PDP where he played a key role as the DG of the party’s 2023 campaign. His efforts contributed to the electoral victory of Governor Caleb Mutfwang. In appreciation of his service, he was appointed as the Political Adviser to the governor. However, in a formal resignation letter dated June 30, 2025, and addressed to the Chief of Staff of the Plateau State Government House, Dabang communicated his decision to step down, citing personal reasons for his exit. The letter, written by Dabang, stated: “Please accept this letter as a formal notice of my resignation from my position as Political Adviser.I appreciate the opportunities I have had to serve and contribute to the government of the day, both as Political Adviser and as former Director General of the Plateau State PDP presidential/governorship campaign council.Thank you for the opportunity given, and I wish the government continued success.” The APC State Chairman, Rufus Bature, confirmed Dabang’s defection back to the APC. Speaking on the development, Bature remarked: “Yes, he is with us. He has joined us fully. In politics, there is no permanent enemy, but permanent interest.” Dabang’s return to the APC is expected to reshape political alignments in Plateau State ahead of future elections, highlighting the fluid nature of Nigerian party politics.
