Tinubu Graces Eyo Festival in Lagos

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday made a notable public appearance at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos, where he joined Lagos residents and visitors in commemorating the ongoing Eyo Festival.

His attendance brought renewed attention and prestige to the historic cultural celebration, which had not been held since 2017. The President’s presence further emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting indigenous traditions that reflect the cultural identity of the Yoruba people.

In line with long-standing customs associated with the festival, President Tinubu was fully dressed in white, a colour that symbolizes purity, peace, and reverence within the Eyo tradition. His attire reflected strict adherence to the ceremonial standards of the event.

Completing his appearance, the President wore a black Akete cap adorned with white stripes and star-shaped designs. A black-and-white fabric was also neatly placed over his shoulder, adding elegance and cultural depth to his overall look.

Upon arrival at Tafawa Balewa Square, President Tinubu was warmly welcomed by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, alongside the Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat. Their reception highlighted the significance of the event to the state and its leadership.

Activities at the venue were marked by colourful and energetic processions, attracting large gatherings of residents, tourists, and lovers of cultural heritage. The atmosphere at the square reflected excitement, unity, and pride in tradition.

The Eyo Festival is widely recognized for its iconic white-clad masquerades, rhythmic chants, and expressive dances. These elements collectively represent centuries-old Yoruba customs, beliefs, and symbolic expressions that continue to define Lagos’ cultural legacy.
