President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially authorized the enforcement of the Nigeria First Policy, which effectively enforces a restriction on the importation of foreign products into the country.

According to a broadcast shared by NTA, this decision was announced through an official statement released on Wednesday.

With this new policy, government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) will immediately begin operating under updated procurement guidelines that prioritize patronizing Nigerian-made products and services.

President Tinubu explained that this directive was approved following a proposal by Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), as part of efforts to align with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

A statement issued from the presidency confirmed that Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, FCIPS, CMILT, ACFE, will soon unveil the full implementation strategy and operational details of the policy.

It is important to remember that on May 3, 2025, President Tinubu previously issued an order halting the importation of foreign products, particularly those that can be manufactured locally within Nigeria.
