President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Commends Guards Brigade for Ensuring FCT Security

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lauded the efforts of the Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army for successfully curbing security threats in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and ensuring the safety of the nation’s seat of power.

The commendation was delivered by the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, during the Guards Brigade’s West Africa Social Activities event held in Abuja.

Tinubu, represented by Matawalle, praised the dedication of the Guards Brigade throughout the year, emphasizing their commitment to safeguarding the FCT and its surroundings, including presidential security.

“I deeply appreciate the commander, officers, and men of the Guards Brigade for their hard work, planning, and coordination in ensuring presidential and territorial security. Your dedication is exceptional,” Tinubu stated.

The President acknowledged the Guards Brigade’s operational efforts and ceremonial duties, highlighting their significant role in maintaining peace and safety for residents, visitors, and diplomats in Abuja.

Tinubu also urged the brigade to continue striving for excellence, urging compassion and empathy in their operations.

On Government Revenue and Budgetary Challenges

In another development, the Minister of State for Defence noted that the nation’s financial standing has improved under the Tinubu administration, with the revenue-to-debt servicing ratio dropping to 65% from 95%.

Despite this progress, the 2024 budget, titled “Budget of Renewed Hope,” has been met with skepticism, particularly among young Nigerians facing ongoing economic challenges. The widespread “Japa” phenomenon—mass emigration of skilled professionals—continues to drain critical sectors like healthcare, ICT, engineering, and public administration.

For instance, a major tertiary medical institution in Abuja recently lost its entire trauma unit laboratory team to brain drain, leaving a significant gap in service delivery.

Looking ahead, the 2025 budget, aptly named “Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity,” aims to address these challenges. Its ability to restore hope, foster peace, and rebuild prosperity among Nigerians will be tested in the coming fiscal year.
