In an official release shared on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu celebrated the former head of state as a pivotal architect of Nigeria’s political and economic evolution Reflecting on Babangida’s illustrious military career, Tinubu underscored his service as an instructor at the Nigerian Defence Academy, his leadership of the 4 Reconnaissance Regiment and the Armoured Corps, his tenure as Director of Army Staff Duties and Plans, and eventually as Chief of Army Staff The president further recalled enduring legacies from Babangida’s government, including landmark infrastructure like the Third Mainland Bridge, policies that ushered in economic liberalisation, and the creation of enduring national institutions—the State Security Service (SSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
