The Ondo State Police Command has publicly dismissed widespread reports suggesting that a vehicle in the convoy of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was responsible for the tragic death of a nine-year-old girl in Akure on Thursday, April 17, 2025. Contrary to viral claims made by media outlets such as Sahara Reporters, the police have confirmed that the First Lady’s convoy was not connected to the incident in any way. Police Investigation Reveals Truth Behind the Incident In an official statement, DSP Olufunmilayo Ayanlade, the Command’s spokesperson, clarified that eyewitness accounts and early investigations revealed that an unregistered white Lexus vehicle was responsible for the hit-and-run incident. “The report published by Sahara Reporters was misleading and lacked factual accuracy. The First Lady’s convoy was not present at the scene of the accident,” Ayanlade said. A witness reportedly chased the fleeing Lexus driver using a motorcycle, tracking the direction the vehicle took after the crash. The accident occurred in the Oba-Ile area of Akure, where the girl was fatally hit while crossing the road.
