The summit, hosted by the Tanzanian government in collaboration with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank, focuses on advancing “Mission 300”, an ambitious initiative aimed at delivering electricity access to 300 million Africans by the year 2030. Summit Goals and Agenda According to a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the summit will bring together African leaders, private sector stakeholders, development partners, and civil society organizations to address the continent’s energy challenges. The discussions will center on: Day 1 (January 27, 2025): Participating countries, including Nigeria, will present their National Energy Strategies, referred to as “compacts,” outlining their plans to achieve universal energy access within the next five years. Day 2 (January 28, 2025): Heads of State will endorse the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, a collective roadmap to achieve the objectives of Mission 300. Nigeria’s Contribution and Leadership President Tinubu will deliver a keynote address during the summit, reaffirming Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to achieving universal energy access. He will also highlight Nigeria’s leadership in the African energy sector and discuss the nation’s clean energy initiatives and integrated energy delivery strategy. This announcement was made during the Lagos State Government’s Pilot Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Vehicle Conversion Training, hosted by the IBILE Oil & Gas Corporation (IOGC) at the Lagos Bus Service Limited Workshop in Yaba. A Commitment to Clean Energy Represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the adoption of CNG as a transformative energy solution. He described it as a pivotal move towards safer, cleaner, and more cost-effective energy systems. This initiative aligns with the state’s commitment to protecting its environment and enhancing the quality of life for its residents. “Transitioning just 20 percent of our transportation fleet to CNG could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by tens of thousands of metric tons annually, significantly improving urban air quality,” he stated.
