The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Imo State Police Command successfully neutralized three suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and their armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during an intense gunfight on December 19, 2024. The confrontation occurred in Orogwe, Owerri West Local Government Area. Sadly, the operation resulted in the loss of two brave police officers, who succumbed to injuries sustained during the exchange of gunfire. During the raid, the police recovered six AK-47 rifles, 131 rounds of live ammunition, a locally fabricated firearm, and two stolen vehicles. Okoye emphasized that efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the criminal syndicate who managed to escape. The Nigerian Immigration Service has unveiled intentions to use new technology advancements to improve migration management and border security in the nation. The Federal High Court in Abuja has set a bail bond of N10 million for each of the 114 protesters, both adults and minors, accused of arson against police stations, the High Court Complex, and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Complex during the End Bad Governance protests. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed plans to gradually phase out tricycle operations in certain areas of Abuja’s city center. We will first trial this in Maitama, Guzape, and Asokoro to assess its effectiveness.” He also raised concerns about some tricycle and taxi operators acting as informants for criminals and announced plans for security profiling of commercial bus and taxi drivers. He stated that from January, all drivers must have security approval and adhere to the designated Abuja taxi color scheme. Wike further mentioned that starting in January, no taxi or bus driver would be permitted to operate without meeting these security requirements. Jegede Oluwasina, 39, appeared in an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday on charges of assaulting two on-duty police officers. The defendant, who does not have a definite address, is facing two counts of assault and breach of peace and is awaiting trial. The defendant and other individuals at large committed the offenses on October 13 at approximately 9:00 am near the Okesha roundabout in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, according to the prosecution, Inspector Raymond Osas, who testified in court. He said that when Akinyemi Olawale and Adewunmi David, two traffic cops assigned to the Okesha Divisional Police Station, Ado-Ekiti, were carrying out their legal duties, they were assaulted by the defendant and other individuals at large. According to the prosecutor, the defendant attacked the complainants after they argued over breaking traffic laws.
