Jude Ezenwafor has secured the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the upcoming Anambra governorship election, with no opposition. This win positions him as the party’s official candidate for the election scheduled for November 8, 2025. The PDP governorship primary was held at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka, Anambra State, on Tuesday. Chijioke Onwubuya, the chairman of the State Governorship Election Congress Committee, declared Ezenwafor as the party’s flagbearer after the primary concluded. According to Onwubuya, Ezenwafor garnered 798 valid votes, with 26 invalid votes, out of 853 accredited delegates from a list of 999. He officially announced, “By the power vested in me and in accordance with PDP rules, I hereby declare Jude Ezenwafor as our candidate.” The election process was conducted in line with the PDP constitution and electoral guidelines, ensuring a transparent and democratic procedure. After securing the party’s nomination, Ezenwafor expressed his commitment to the PDP’s mission to restore leadership in Anambra. He called on the electorate to support the party in its bid to reclaim the state’s government house. Ezenwafor emphasized, “If you support me, this dream will come true. Despite claims that the PDP is no longer relevant, I intend to prove them wrong. All LGA and ward chairmen are now automatic coordinators in their regions. Our journey to Government House has begun.” Chidi Chidebe, the state chairman of the PDP, reaffirmed that the party was entering the election stronger and more united than ever. He added that Anambra now regrets its previous decision to reject the PDP. Chidebe further noted that many former party members who had left due to disappointments elsewhere have returned, citing the PDP as Nigeria’s most inclusive platform that has contributed significantly to the nation’s governance structures. The upcoming Anambra governorship election, scheduled for November 8, 2025, will determine the state’s leadership for the coming years. The 2024 Edo State governorship election candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodalo, has expressed his intention to challenge the tribunal ruling at the Court of Appeal. The verdict upheld the election of Monday Okpebholo as the legitimate governor of Edo State. Ighodalo’s Response to Tribunal Decision Shortly after the tribunal’s judgment on Wednesday, Ighodalo released an official statement condemning the ruling, describing it as a serious miscarriage of justice. He stated, “I have, therefore, directed my legal team to immediately file an appeal against this decision, which we firmly believe undermines the principles of justice.” Ighodalo emphasized that his challenge goes beyond personal ambition but rather represents a commitment to protecting democracy, ensuring citizens’ right to freely determine their leadership, and preserving a legacy of fairness for future generations. Tribunal’s Verdict and Basis for Rejection The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, presided over by Justice Wilfred Kpochi and two other panel members, dismissed Ighodalo’s petition due to a lack of substantial evidence. The tribunal ruled that the PDP candidate failed to provide competent witnesses or sufficient proof to validate claims of electoral malpractice and non-compliance with the Electoral Act. Call for Peace and Assurance to Supporters Ighodalo reassured his supporters and members of the PDP to remain law-abiding while they continue seeking legal redress. He reaffirmed his trust in the judiciary, calling it the “last hope of the common man.” He urged Edo citizens to stay peaceful and patient as the legal process unfolds, stating, “This is not the conclusion of our struggle, but rather the beginning of a greater pursuit for justice, democracy, and the rightful mandate given to me and my running mate, Barr. Osarodion Ogie, on the platform of the PDP.” Commitment to Edo State’s Progress Acknowledging the overwhelming support received throughout his campaign, Ighodalo reiterated that his mission is not driven by personal ambition but by a collective vision for a prosperous Edo State. He remains resolute in upholding democratic values, justice, and the will of the people. He further affirmed, “We are unwavering in our pursuit of truth and justice, and we will continue to fight for the people’s mandate with every legal means available.” Related Articles For more details on Nigeria’s electoral laws and tribunal processes, visit the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) website.
