The Abia State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps) has announced the deployment of 620 operatives across different parts of the state as part of strengthened security arrangements ahead of, during, and after the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr celebration. The move is aimed at maintaining public safety and protecting national infrastructure throughout the festive period. The State Commandant, Chukwuemeka N. Odimba, revealed that detailed operational directives have already been circulated to Area Commanders and Divisional Officers in all Local Government Areas to ensure that security coverage remains effective in every community. According to him, the command has taken proactive measures to guarantee a calm and orderly atmosphere for residents and visitors during the celebration. He explained that the operation will focus heavily on safeguarding critical national assets and essential infrastructure, which remain key priorities for the corps. Security personnel have been instructed to intensify surveillance around public facilities, government installations, transportation hubs, and other sensitive locations considered important to public safety. To further strengthen the exercise, the command has mobilized several specialized formations, including the Rapid Response Squad, Tactical Team, and the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU). These units will carry out continuous patrols in recreational centres, crowded environments, vulnerable communities, and identified flashpoints, with the objective of preventing any unlawful activity before it escalates. Commandant Odimba assured the public that officers under his leadership will perform their responsibilities with discipline, professionalism, and respect for civil rights, while ensuring that law-abiding citizens can celebrate without fear. He emphasized that the command remains fully prepared to respond swiftly to any security concern that may arise within the state. Residents were also encouraged to cooperate with security agencies by staying alert and promptly reporting unusual movements, suspicious gatherings, or any activity capable of threatening peace within their neighborhoods. Public participation, he noted, plays a vital role in maintaining stability, especially during major religious festivities. He further appealed to Muslim faithful observing Eid al-Fitr to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity, and national progress in Abia State and across Nigeria, stressing that collective responsibility is necessary for lasting security and harmony.
