President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially transmitted a list of nominees to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation into the governing boards of two critical petroleum sector regulators — the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). The development was made public on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who confirmed that formal letters seeking legislative approval had been dispatched to the upper chamber. According to the submission, 21 individuals have been carefully selected to occupy strategic board positions across both agencies, reflecting a mix of returning officials and newly appointed professionals with extensive experience in energy governance, regulation, finance, and administration. NUPRC Board Appointments In the first correspondence to the Senate, President Tinubu nominated Senator Magnus Abe as Chairman of the NUPRC board. Abe, who represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District for two terms, previously served on the board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). He currently heads the National Agency for the Great Green Wall, bringing both legislative and administrative experience to the role. His professional background includes service as Special Technical Adviser to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources on upstream and gas matters. He also contributed to the World Bank Oil and Gas Policy advisory team, offering technical guidance to the Nigerian government.
