In a developing legal case, a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Kaduna has ordered the remand of two sales representatives, Timothy James, aged 27, and Daniel Williams, aged 32, over allegations of embezzling ₦7.6 million from their employer. The accused individuals, both of whom reside in Barnawa, Kaduna State, were arraigned on charges of criminal conspiracy and theft. They denied the charges during their court appearance. Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, presiding over the case, directed that the defendants be held in a correctional facility. The matter was postponed until May 26 for a formal decision on their bail applications. Details of the Alleged Offence According to court documents and statements presented by Inspector Chidi Leo, the lead prosecutor, the case originated from a complaint made by Michael Aaron, the owner of AA Aluminium and Steels, situated along Ahmadu Bello Way in Kaduna. Inspector Leo explained that on March 14, the defendants, alongside unidentified accomplices who are still at large, allegedly colluded to misappropriate a total of ₦7.6 million. The amount reportedly represents proceeds from sales made on behalf of the company, which the accused converted for personal use. Legal Implications The offences, which fall under Sections 58 and 217 of the Kaduna State Penal Code (2017), carry significant penalties. Section 58 stipulates a two-year prison sentence for conspiracy, while Section 217 mandates a five-year imprisonment for theft, upon conviction. The Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, has passed away at the age of 64.He died on Monday, November 4, 2024, following a brief illness, at a tertiary health facility in Ekiti State. While official details surrounding his death remain undisclosed, The Nation reports that close sources indicate that Justice Adeyeye’s passing occurred after a short stay in the hospital. Justice Adeyeye was appointed Chief Judge on October 11, 2021, by former Governor Kayode Fayemi.Born in 1960 in Araromi Ugbesi, located in Ekiti East Local Government Area, he embarked on his legal journey after being called to the bar in 1986. He began his career as a state counsel in the civil service of the former Ondo State. With the establishment of Ekiti State in 1996, he joined the Ekiti State Judiciary Service Commission.His commitment and dedication led to his promotion as a judge in the Ekiti State High Court in 2002.
