The Ekiti State Police Command has apprehended a man, Victor Lorjaal, for allegedly murdering his mother, Mrs. Victoria Lorjaal, and elder sister, Brenda Lorjaal, using a machete. Tragic Incident at Itaji-Ekiti Farm According to a statement released on Thursday by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, the horrific event occurred on Tuesday at approximately 7:10 a.m. at Aba Ile Camp, Itaji-Ekiti. An eyewitness, who is also one of the deceased’s children, recounted that while working alongside the suspect on the farm, Victor Lorjaal abruptly left and approached their mother and sister at a separate location where they were engaged in farm work. Shortly after, the eyewitness heard distressed cries for help from their mother, but upon arriving at the scene, he found both victims already attacked, while the suspect had fled with the weapon. Police Investigation Underway Confirming the incident, SP Abutu disclosed that Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, has ordered a thorough investigation into the case. “The suspect will be prosecuted as soon as investigations are concluded,” Abutu assured. Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has clarified that the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has no connection with the prevailing security challenges in the South-East region. Soludo Separates Nnamdi Kanu’s Release from Insecurity in the South-East During a media chat marking his third anniversary in office, Governor Soludo reiterated that while he has consistently advocated for Kanu’s release, it should not be conflated with the insecurity plaguing the region. “The release of Nnamdi Kanu, for me, is different from the issue of security. I separate the two and do not link them. His release is necessary for broader discussions on the long-term future of the Igbo people,” Soludo stated. The Detention of Nnamdi Kanu and Its Impact Nnamdi Kanu has been held by the Department of State Services (DSS) since his arrest in Kenya by the Nigerian government approximately five years ago. Despite mounting pressure from various groups advocating for his freedom, he remains in detention. Some proponents of his release argue that it would significantly curb the rising insecurity in the South-East, a region plagued by violent attacks and instability. Simon Ekpa’s Influence and Security Concerns Governor Soludo also highlighted the role of Simon Ekpa, who declared himself the leader of IPOB following Kanu’s detention. The Kano State Police Command has apprehended three individuals in connection with the possession of counterfeit currencies valued at an astounding N129 billion. The arrest was confirmed by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, during a press briefing on Tuesday. The breakdown of the seized fake currencies includes $3,366,000 (US Dollars), CFA51,970,000, and N1,443,000 (Naira), alongside other currencies stolen from a foreign exchange dealer. According to SP Kiyawa, the suspects are currently in police custody, cooperating in an ongoing investigation aimed at identifying the counterfeit currency producers. In addition to the fake money, police operatives recovered six live ammunition, three tricycles, eight motorcycles, and 175 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp. Further items recovered include 250 pieces of diazepam tablets, 278 sheep, and seven cattle. SP Kiyawa highlighted the Command’s proactive approach to combating crime, noting significant progress in addressing issues such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and drug trafficking. “These efforts not only lead to the arrest of offenders but also serve as a deterrent to others contemplating criminal acts,” he remarked.
