President Bola Tinubu has assured the families of 11 fallen security operatives of federal support following a deadly bandit attack in Shanga Local Government Area, Kebbi State. The tragic incident has drawn national attention, highlighting the continued risks faced by personnel safeguarding communities. The President’s message was conveyed through Vice President Kashim Shettima during an official visit to the Government House in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday. The visit was aimed at expressing solidarity with the state government and its citizens during a period marked by grief and loss. In addition to addressing the attack, the President extended condolences over the passing of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman-Zuru. Both incidents were described as deeply distressing and emotionally overwhelming, reflecting the magnitude of loss experienced by the state. Condemning the assault, Tinubu characterized the killing of the security personnel as a brutal and inhumane act. He acknowledged the bravery, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice of the operatives, emphasizing their commitment to duty even in the face of grave danger. According to him, the Federal Government remains fully committed to providing comprehensive support to both the affected families and the wider communities impacted by the tragedy. He further stressed that the purpose of the visit was to stand in unity with the bereaved families, offering heartfelt sympathy and reassurance during a difficult time. The administration, he noted, is actively working to strengthen security efforts and provide necessary assistance in all aspects. In response, Governor Nasir Idris expressed gratitude for the visit, noting that it symbolized genuine empathy and solidarity from the federal leadership. He remarked that such gestures reinforce the bond between the government and the people, especially in moments of collective sorrow. The governor explained that the slain personnel were attacked while responding to an emergency call in Shanga Local Government Area, highlighting the constant dangers faced by security forces operating on the frontlines. He also shared details regarding the late Speaker, revealing that he had been transported abroad for advanced medical care but unfortunately passed away despite extensive efforts to save his life. The state, he said, has accepted the situation with faith and submission. Also lending his voice, the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Sanusi Mika’ilu, praised the state government for its continued support to victims’ families and communities affected by the incidents. He acknowledged the importance of timely intervention and compassion in helping those impacted cope with their losses.
