Swift Police InterventionAccording to ASP Abubakar Aliyu, the command’s spokesperson, the incident unfolded at 8:30 p.m. when heavily armed bandits ambushed a vehicle, firing sporadically in an attempt to abduct the passengers. Responding swiftly to a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia led a team of operatives to the scene. The officers engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle, successfully foiling the kidnapping attempt and rescuing all 10 occupants. Victims Receive Medical CareUnfortunately, four of the rescued passengers sustained gunshot injuries during the attack. They were promptly rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving medical attention. Aminu Hassan, a 25-year-old from Dundubus, Daja LGA, has been taken into custody by Katsina State police officers on suspicion of providing financial support to armed bandits in Danmusa LGA and the adjacent areas. On November 19, 2024, the suspect was apprehended while on a regular patrol along the Yantumaki and Kankara highway, hiding two sets of military uniforms in a black polythene bag. In a statement released on Tuesday, Katsina Police Command spokesperson ASP Abubakar Sadiq revealed the arrest. He further disclosed that three other suspects—Lawal M. Ahmad (29), Isma’il Dalhatu (24), and Shafi’u Adamu (28), were apprehended as a result of further investigations. 14 sets of military clothes and one police uniform, according to ASP Sadiq, Authorities retrieved items that were purportedly meant to be delivered to the armed bandits for their illegal activities. He stated that “the suspects have admitted to their involvement in this criminal activity.” In a different occurrence, seven people were detained by the Katsina State Police Command on suspicion of raping four children between the ages of 13 and 14. After a report was filed at the Kaita Divisional Police Headquarters, the suspects—all of whom were Kaita LGA residents—were taken into custody on November 25, 2024. The suspects enticed the youngsters to one of the suspects’ homes, where they sexually assaulted them, according to ASP Sadiq. He mentioned that the detained suspects have admitted to the offences and would face charges in court after the inquiry is over. CP Musa Aliyu, the Katsina State Police Commissioner praised the Command’s personnel for their commitment and expertise in capturing these criminals. A truck transporting gas cylinders exploded in the Magama community of Jibia Local Government Area in Katsina State on Friday, injuring many people and causing significant damage to nearby vehicles and buildings. According to sources, the explosion occurred at the ‘Walidan’ filling station, where products believed to have been smuggled from Niger Republic were stored. Aliyu Muhammad, a local resident, explained that the truck had been parked at the station for several days before the explosion. “Seven vehicles were destroyed, and two houses, including the one housing the filling station, were damaged,” Muhammad said, adding that numerous people were injured in the blast. The incident was confirmed by Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, who stated that the explosion occurred at around 8:45 AM on November 15, 2024. Police officers stationed at the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters heard the loud blast and responded quickly, with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and military personnel rushing to the scene. Upon arrival, the authorities found a truck loaded with gas cylinders engulfed in flames at the Tamal filling station along the Kagadama–Magamar Jibia road. The joint team acted swiftly to prevent further harm, extinguishing the fire and protecting lives and property. Aliyu reported that six vehicles were severely damaged in the fire, but fortunately, no fatalities were recorded. He added that the Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, has ordered a full investigation to determine the cause of the explosion, with updates to be provided as the inquiry progresses.
