On Saturday, December 7, 2024, the Katsina State Police Command successfully prevented two kidnapping attempts, rescuing a total of 20 victims across two incidents. First Kidnapping Attempt Thwarted in Jibia At approximately 7:00 p.m., police officers responded swiftly to a distress call from the Katsina–Magamar Jibia road in Jibia Local Government Area. A group of armed bandits, equipped with AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons, attempted to kidnap the occupants of a moving vehicle by opening fire. However, officers from the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters, acting on intelligence, arrived at the scene and engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle. The bandits, who sustained injuries, abandoned their plan and fled the area, leaving all 10 victims unharmed. Second Kidnapping Attempt Foiled in Faskari The second incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on the Funtua–Gusau road in Faskari Local Government Area. Armed bandits ambushed a passenger vehicle at Marabar Bangori. Upon receiving the alarm, the police mobilized and engaged the criminals in another gunfight. Overpowered by the police’s superior firepower, the bandits abandoned their mission, leaving all passengers safe. Unfortunately, one victim suffered severe injuries from an assault by the bandits and was promptly taken to a nearby hospital. The victim is currently recovering and responding well to medical treatment. Police Commended for Professionalism Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, commended the officers for their courage and professionalism during the operations. He encouraged them to continue their efforts in fighting crime and ensuring the safety and security of Katsina’s residents. The first incident occurred on December 7, 2024, around 7:00 PM at Kwanar Makera, located along the Katsina-Magamar Jibia road in Jibia Local Government Area (LGA). Armed bandits, equipped with dangerous weapons, attempted to kidnap the occupants of a moving vehicle. However, operatives from the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters, acting on a tip-off, intercepted the bandits. The police engaged the criminals in a gun battle, resulting in several bandits fleeing with gunshot injuries. All ten passengers in the vehicle were safely rescued. Later the same evening, at approximately 8:30 PM, another kidnapping attempt occurred at Marabar Bangori, along the Funtua-Gusau road in Faskari LGA. A group of armed bandits ambushed a motor vehicle carrying passengers. However, the police quickly responded, forcing the bandits to abandon their plan and flee. The passengers were rescued, though one victim sustained severe injuries and was hospitalized. Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, praised the police operatives for their bravery and urged them to maintain their efforts in combating crime across the state.
