President Bola Tinubu has called on judges and judicial officers across Nigeria to strengthen public confidence in the justice system by ensuring that courts remain accessible, fair, and responsive to the needs of ordinary citizens. The President made the appeal during the commissioning of the newly completed Court of Appeal, Abuja Division complex, an event held as part of activities marking his third year in office. Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu said the judiciary carries a major responsibility in preserving democracy and protecting the rights of Nigerians, adding that judicial decisions must be guided by fairness rather than social status or influence. He urged members of the bench to make justice delivery faster and more effective, stressing that Nigerians expect the court system to serve as a reliable institution where every citizen can seek protection and redress. “My Lords, as you move into this complex, Nigerians ask one thing of you: let justice be swift and pure; let it be blind to status and pride,” Tinubu said. “Let the common man feel that this court is truly his last hope.” New Court Complex Part of Institutional Rebuilding Plan The President described the new Court of Appeal facility as part of efforts by his administration to improve national institutions and create better working conditions for public servants. According to him, the project reflects the government’s broader “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which focuses on strengthening governance structures, improving infrastructure, and supporting reforms across key sectors. Tinubu said rebuilding national institutions requires practical steps rather than promises, noting that investments were being made in areas including the judiciary, education, healthcare, transportation, and power. “The Renewed Hope Agenda is not a slogan but an action. We said we would restore the dignity of our institutions, and we are doing it,” he stated. Judiciary Faces Growing Expectations The President acknowledged the demanding responsibilities handled by the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, which manages significant cases involving election disputes, legal appeals, and other critical national matters. He said judges require an environment that reflects the importance of their duties and promised continued support toward improving facilities for judicial officers. “The Abuja Division carries immense dockets, from election petitions to trials; the eyes of Nigerians are on you, and you deserve an environment that matches your responsibilities,” Tinubu added.
