Abubakar joins the Primeira Liga outfit from Footwork FC, a prominent Nigerian football academy recognized for grooming young talents for European clubs. The dynamic striker has committed to a substantial five-year contract with Hugo Oliviera’s team, marking a significant step in his professional career. To complete the deal, Famalicão reportedly invested €800,000 to secure the services of the promising Nigerian attacker. At just 19 years old, Umar Abubakar showcased exceptional goal-scoring prowess during his loan spell with Jong Gent, a Belgian second division team. Over the previous season, he netted an impressive 21 goals in 27 appearances, a remarkable feat that significantly contributed to the club’s elevation to the Belgian Challenger Pro League. Despite his outstanding performance and pivotal role in Jong Gent’s promotion campaign, the Belgian club opted not to pursue a permanent deal for the talented forward.
