In a devastating attack, armed bandits kidnapped more than 50 women and children in Kakin Dawa, a rural village in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The raid occurred early Sunday morning, leaving the community in fear and distress. The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the incident and stated that security forces have been dispatched to the area to address the situation. A local resident, Hassan Ya’u, who narrowly escaped the attack but lost his younger sister to the kidnappers, recounted the horrifying events. “The gunmen, riding motorcycles, stormed the village around 1:30 a.m. and abducted people from multiple homes,” he said. Ya’u revealed that the victims include married women and young girls, totaling more than 50 individuals. Appealing for help, Ya’u said, “We urge both the federal and Zamfara State governments to deploy more soldiers and security operatives to combat these bandits.” Another villager, Abdulkadir Sadia, shared the community’s anguish: “The entire village is in despair. Armed bandits have assaulted communities in Wanke, located near Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, abducting approximately 100 residents. Among those taken was a Chief Imam, who had reportedly been kidnapped once before. The state government and police have not yet issued any statements about the event. In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, a survivor shared that the communities affected were in a state of siege, leading residents to flee out of fear of additional attacks. He reported that in the areas near Sabon Layi and Dogon Hayi, around 50 people were abducted from each location. The survivor recounted that many were still unaccounted for, and the local population was terrified, seeking refuge. He described the scene as chaotic, with bandits pursuing people like animals. The attackers, riding motorbikes, chased women into their homes, abducted them, and intercepted others trying to escape, forcing them into the bush like livestock.
