We have never faced a crisis of this scale in the past.” The ex-lawmaker went further to describe the situation as “charted hunger,” referencing how widespread and severe the food scarcity has become. He lamented that malnutrition is now claiming lives in rural communities, where access to basic nutrition has become a luxury. “People are now combing through refuse dumps and garbage centres just to find scraps of food,” Melaye revealed, describing the harsh conditions under which some Nigerians are living.
